Pinky's Story

Meet Pinky, also known as Bili!
Our Very Special Little Girl that requires a VERY special home.

Pinky is an absolutely precious 8 to 9 month old Chihuahua weighing just 5 pounds. At her age and size, she’s essentially full grown, and she is truly the sweetest little baby. Pinky is affectionate, gentle, and absolutely LOVES being held, cuddled, and babied. She’s wonderful with people, gets along good with other dogs, and wants nothing more than to be someone’s tiny little shadow.

Sadly, Pinky has been dealt a very difficult hand in life. At just a few months old, she was diagnosed with IMHA (Immune-Mediated Hemolytic Anemia), a serious autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys its own red blood cells, causing anemia. IMHA can be life threatening, and while some dogs can stabilize with treatment, relapses are possible and the disease can be unpredictable. Pinky may also have an underlying liver condition, although that has not been definitively diagnosed.

Because of the complexity of Pinky’s medical needs and the uncertainty surrounding her prognosis, we are looking for a very special hospice minded forever home. The reality is that we simply don’t know how much time Pinky has. It could be days, weeks, months, or hopefully much longer. What we do know is that she deserves to spend whatever time she has feeling safe, comfortable, and incredibly loved. Her future family must understand that she WILL require ongoing veterinary care, monitoring bloodwork, medications, and potentially emergency treatment if her condition worsens.

Pinky will also need a more protected lifestyle than the average puppy. Due to her autoimmune disease and medical history, vaccinations will need to be carefully evaluated with her veterinarian, and she may not be able to receive certain vaccines in the future. This means avoiding higher-risk environments such as dog parks, doggy daycare, and other places where she could be exposed to infectious diseases. Her ideal family will understand these limitations and be happy providing her with a quieter, more controlled environment where she can safely enjoy life.

Despite everything, Pinky is still just a baby who wants to be loved. She enjoys her food when she’s feeling well, loves being carried around, and is happiest snuggled up close to her people. She’s been doing well using pee pads and will also go potty outside. She doesn’t need big adventures or a busy lifestyle. She needs a warm lap, gentle hands, a comfortable home, and someone who will cherish every single day with her.

Pinky is not going to be the right fit for every family, and that’s okay. We’re looking for someone with an extraordinary heart who understands the medical and emotional commitment involved in loving a dog with an uncertain future. Someone who can celebrate her good days, support her through the difficult ones, and make compassionate decisions about her quality of life if that time comes.

Pinky may never get the long, carefree puppyhood we wish she could have. But she still deserves a beautiful life, however long that life may be.We can’t promise how much time Pinky has left. We can only hope that someone out there is willing to make every moment count.

https://www.livefreerescue.com/adoption-application
