Pierre's Story
French Bulldog | Approx. 5-7 years | Male | 21 lbs
*We cannot guarantee breed nor age.

ONLY APPLICANTS WITH PRIOR FRENCH BULLDOG EXPERIENCE WILL BE ELIGIBLE.

Temperament: Sweetie pie, calm, good natured.
Activity level: Not overly active, calm.
Vetting: Vetting: Core vaccines (dh2pp, Rabies). Neutered, microchipped, dewormed, fecal - negative. On flea/tick and heartworm medication.
Pierre was found by an animal control in extremely bad condition as he was emaciated. Due to the extreme state of his body he is slowly gaining weight.
Vet noted: “brachycephalic syndrome, with a fair amount of stertorous breathing”. He might be at risk for sudden severe respiratory distress and even potential death so modifications for his safety need to be made. Someone with French Bulldog experience will only be eligible as this is common with the breed. So his future home must therefore take precautions such as not over-exercising/over-exerting him, taking care that he doesn't become overheated, limiting stress, and seeking urgent medical attention if he ever goes into respiratory distress. There is also the option to have some of these issues addressed surgically, this would require referral to a specialist, and if he's a candidate, could help him to breath much easier.
Housebroken: Yes, but may have a couple accidents getting into his routine
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: Yes
Good with Children: Yes
Any noted prey drive: None observed.
How do they respond to the outdoors: Likes walks and is curious about the world. Doesn’t mind being outside for a hang out with his humans but prefers the indoors.
Crate Trained: Yes
Any resource guarding: No resource guarding but should be watched with his chews not to choke on them.
Response to commands: Knows ‘sit’, shakes a paw. Pierre will need some work with voice commands but can be alert with a whistle.
Are they vocal: Not a big barker, but grumbles and ruffs at times, he may become more vocal over time though.
Leash Etiquette: Pierre likes to stop and sniff on walks; he walks best in the mornings. Pierre likes to get to know his area so may be more of a sniffy walker initially.
Transportation: Pierre loves being in the car. He is game for car adventures! Not tested on public transit.
*Pierre’s bio may change as we get to know him better.
*Comes with 6 weeks of pet insurance plus 2 free online group training classes.
*Due to the number of applications we have been receiving, our team is only able to respond to applicants that will be moving forward as we are an entirely volunteer-run organization.

Bonjour! Meet Pierre.

Pierre loves to snuggle and is such an affectionate boy. He loves belly rubs and making snorty noises. Pierre is more of a morning guy, when the sun comes up, he is ready to play and go for a nice stroll around town. Pierre is not a demanding fellow, in fact his foster family describes him as gentle, sweet, and calm. He just wants to be spending time with his people, so a home where he can sleep while you work would be his dream.

Pierre loves adventure…. if that adventure includes his family. Where you are going, he is happy to go along with, if he’s with his family, he is game for it all! Pierre is not looking for any solo adventures, he’s up to explore in the car, on foot, you name it, IF its with his humans. Pierre gets along with other dogs and animals and has not shown a prey drive, so if you are looking for a patio buddy and inside pal he’s your guy.

Pierre is a brachycephalic dog, so that means he will be a snorty, snoring dog, so you might need earplugs! Experience with brachycephalic dogs is a MUST as he will need to be watched in the hot months for overheating and he will need a home with air conditioning to keep cool and comfortable in the summer.

Pierre is the kind of dog that won’t get into trouble, but also will plant his feet if he is not ready to move. He will be patient and won’t be demanding (which is wonderful when you have to dress him up for the cold), he is even patient with his baths! He will also expect you to wait for him when he is not ready, some people call that stubborn, and that may be, but Pierre is determined and sometimes he wonders if you are in fact the inflexible one to his wishes? Pierre views walks as ‘his walk’ so sometimes you need to be patient, cause you may be going on a long walk if he gets his long walk spurts. Pierre loves food and is an extremely social fellow.

If Pierre sounds like a good match for you, please fill out an application at: covetedcanines.org/application
