Phoenix

Phoenix has learned that some of life’s best moments are wonderfully simple: a quiet nap, a walk outside, a handful of treats — and, apparently, popcorn. He’s a calm, affectionate boy who stays close to his person, and every so often he’ll lean against your leg, wrap a paw around you, and look up as if he’s making absolutely sure you know you’re his person.

At two years old and about 48 pounds, Phoenix is a Lab for adoption whose name tells part of his story. The legendary phoenix symbolizes rebirth and renewal — rising from the ashes to begin again. After surviving severe neglect and abuse, Phoenix has done much the same. In foster care, he has been rebuilding his confidence, learning that people can be kind and home can be safe. He can still be timid with unfamiliar people, noises, or surroundings, but with each passing day, more of the relaxed, trusting dog underneath emerges.

Phoenix adores his foster dog brother and gives him sweet little kisses, so another friendly dog could offer reassurance, though he can also be happy as your one-and-only shadow. He walks nicely on leash, loves being outside, and is equally happy napping or snuggling. He can be crated or left out for a few hours and would fit a working household with a midday break and predictable routine.

This rescue dog for adoption needs a patient adopter who understands that trust is something Phoenix is still discovering. If you’re ready to adopt a rescue dog and appreciate the quiet victories along the way, you’ll get to watch Phoenix continue to rise — not from ashes, but from a past he is steadily leaving behind.

Phoenix is available for transport to the Vernon, CT area, serving adopters throughout Connecticut and nearby areas. Pickup logistics are arranged at adoption.

Ready to adopt Phoenix? The fastest way is to apply directly at shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/ALDR/Dog. Clicking "Start Your Inquiry" sends us an email; we'll reply with the application link, but it doesn't place Phoenix on hold.

Browse more available dogs in Connecticut at addicuslegacy.org/location/connecticut/.
