Phantom's Story

Phantom is the kind of dog that makes an entrance.

This roughly 1-year-old Doberman/Pit mix is all legs, excitement, enthusiasm, and joy. He barrels into life full speed ahead, convinced every person he meets is his new best friend. Right now, Phantom is still learning that not everyone appreciates being greeted like they just won the lottery, but underneath all that puppy chaos is an incredibly sweet and social dog who genuinely wants to connect with people.

What impressed us most about Phantom is that despite all his energy, he’s remarkably gentle-hearted. Even while bouncing around with excitement, he’s careful with people, shows great bite inhibition, and redirects easily. He already knows “sit,” is highly food motivated, and seems eager to learn, which makes us think he’s going to thrive with continued training and structure.

We strongly suspect Phantom was once someone’s inside dog. His coat is healthy, he’s very comfortable around people, and he acts like a dog who has missed human interaction more than anything else. After likely spending too much time confined, he’s now overflowing with excitement anytime he gets attention or freedom, and honestly, it’s hard not to root for him.

Phantom is looking for an active home that can embrace his goofy personality while helping him learn manners and routine. With exercise, consistency, and love, we think he’s going to become an incredibly loyal, fun, and devoted companion.

If you want a young dog with tons of personality, a good heart, and huge potential, Phantom is ready to steal the show and your couch.

Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
