Petunia's Story

Meet Petunia 🌸

Petunia is a 3-year-old Beagle with the gentlest soul. Rescued from an animal testing lab, she’s slowly learning what it means to be safe, loved, and part of a family. Because of her past, Petunia is extremely skittish and still very shy around people, but underneath her fear is an incredibly sweet dog who wants so badly to trust.

She may not run up to strangers for pets right away, but you’ll see her soft personality shine through in the little things — the cautious tail wag when she sees you, the way she quietly follows the other dogs around, and the small moments when she starts to relax and feel secure.

Petunia absolutely needs another friendly, confident dog in the home. Other dogs are her comfort and her guide, and she gains confidence by watching them. A calm, patient household with understanding adopters will help her continue to blossom at her own pace. She has also displayed some resource guarding with her things, which we are currently working with a trainer on.

She’s not the kind of dog who will demand attention, but for someone willing to give her time, patience, and love, Petunia will be the sweetest little companion. She will need to go to a home that has resource guarding experience and one that is willing to continue with the training needed to manage this behavior.
