Petunia's Story
Short legs. Big heart. The kind of girl you bring home and spend the next 15 years bragging about.

Yall, we are in love with Petunia. Like, embarrassingly in love. We've met a whole lot of wonderful dogs over the years, but every once in a while, one comes along who makes us wonder how we got lucky enough to have her. Petunia is that girl.

She's almost 2-years-old, 25-30-pound brindle Corgi mix, built like somebody took a regular dog and gently pressed down on the top of her. And somehow, packed into that little low-riding body is one of the sweetest, most lovable personalities we've ever met.

Petunia is just GOOD. Good company. Good manners. Good attitude. The kind of dog who makes herself right at home without making your entire household revolve around her. She's happy to see you, happy to go somewhere with you, happy to play, and equally happy to spend an entire afternoon on the couch doing absolutely nothing of importance. She's not complicated. She's just happy to be yours.

And that is what we love most about her.

Petunia has this wonderful way of making you feel like whatever you're doing is exactly what she wanted to do anyway. Going for a ride? Wonderful. Playing in the yard? She's in. Staying home in your pajamas watching television until you start questioning your own productivity? Petunia thinks that sounds like a lovely use of everyone's time.

She's playful without being exhausting, affectionate without being demanding, and calm without being boring. She's got that rare, perfectly balanced energy where she can enjoy a little excitement and then settle right back down beside you like she's been paying the mortgage there for years.

She's the dog you can actually relax with.

Not the kind of relax where you're keeping one eye on her and wondering what expensive household item she's currently dismantling. We mean the kind where you stretch out on the couch, she curls up next to you, and suddenly neither of you has anywhere particularly important to be.

She's an excellent car companion, too. Petunia is perfectly happy to ride along, which means your little errands can become outings with your best friend. And we suspect you'll start inventing errands just to bring her along. Need toothpaste? Petunia's coming. Forgot the toothpaste because you were busy telling the cashier about Petunia? Well, looks like yall are going back.

Everybody who meets this girl falls for her. And it's not just because she's adorable, although those little legs are doing some serious work for her public relations. It's because she has such an easy, gentle, happy presence. She's one of those dogs who doesn't have to do anything particularly impressive to win you over. You just spend a little time with her, and before you know it, you're talking about her like she's your granddaughter.

Petunia would be wonderful with a dog sibling, but she's also confident enough to be your one and only. She doesn't need a house full of activity to be happy. Give her someone to love, a comfortable place to curl up, a little playtime, and a spot beside you on the couch, and she's got everything she needs.

We can picture her in so many homes. Riding shotgun on Saturday mornings. Napping beside you on rainy afternoons. Greeting you after a long day like you've just returned from a six-month deployment, even though you only went to get groceries. Quietly keeping you company while you work, cook, read, or do absolutely nothing.

That's the thing about Petunia. She's not asking you to build your whole life around her. She just wants to be part of the life you already love. And somehow, we think she'll make every bit of it better.

We know everybody says their rescue dog is special, but this girl really has us wrapped around her tiny little legs. She's sweet, she's easy, she's playful, she's calm, and she has enough love in that compact little body to make a house feel like a home.

Somebody is going to adopt Petunia and wonder how they ever lived without her.

And the rest of us are going to be standing here, a little jealous, watching the world's nicest little couch potato drive off into the sunset with her new family.

Probably riding shotgun. Like she owns the car.

+++++++

What Is a Benefactor Dog or Puppy, and Why Is the Adoption Fee Higher?

Benefactor dogs and puppies are typically purebreds or high-demand rescues who tend to find homes quicklyeven with a higher adoption fee. These dogs play a special role in our mission.

Their increased fees help cover the costs for dogs who need much more time, care, and resources before theyre ready for adoption. Some dogs spend monthseven over a yearin our care, requiring expensive surgeries, heartworm treatment, behavioral training, or ongoing medical support.

By adopting a Benefactor dog, you're not only giving them a loving homeyoure also helping to fund the second chance of another dog still waiting for theirs. Its a meaningful way to make a difference beyond just one life.

+++++++

ADOPTION APPLICATION:
https://form.jotform.com/260401018308040

+++++++

Petunia is currently being fostered in Texas and will be transported to the perfect forever home by our rescue! We have transports departing each week!

+++++++

The Truth About Rescue:

Every rescue pup is a work in progress — and that’s the beauty of it. None of them come wrapped in a bow, ready-made or mistake-free. They come with stories, quirks, and hearts that have seen a lot but still choose to trust again.

Adoption isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence. Showing up for them, every day, until they know they’re finally home. That’s when you’ll see them bloom — soft and steady — into the very best version of themselves. And somewhere along the way, you’ll realize they were never the only one being rescued.

+++++++

Once we have received your application, we will review and reach out to set-up an interview with one of our volunteers! If you have additional questions, please email us at SaintMuttsInquiries@gmail.com.

Note: As with all of our rescues, we recommend homes with children 10 years and over to ensure the best fit for both the pets and families involved.

Check out all of our adoptable pups and learn more about our rescue on our website: www.saintmutts.com
