Petra's Story

This girl has gone from being terrified on arrival to coming into the house and running into her crate for meals. From what we can tell she has also never been crated, but she's quickly learning that the crate is a soft, warm, cozy place to eat, rest and sleep, and that she will have lots of love, exercise and playtime in between crate naps. This lovely Doberman girl was abandoned by the side of the road in terrible emaciated condition. There was a male, equally emaciated, who was taken in by another rescue. They had clearly been a breeding pair, with mama showing the effects of multiple litters. Petra appears to be maybe 2 years old and she's quite underweight at 50 pounds. She needs to gain 5-10 pounds to be at a healthy weight. She doesn't seem to know what a leash is and acts like she's never been a house. She laid down quietly in the vehicle for the long ride and didn't struggle when carried into her foster home (she doesn't walk on leash). When set down in a yard she chose to approach foster mom and quietly and cautiously seek comfort. Petra is already starting to blossom and show what a delightful girl she is. She's quickly learning the leash and slept quietly in a cozy, warm bed in the house, for probably the first time in her life.

Petra is starting to play with the other dogs too. Several amazing Dobe's have lived out their lives at Dogwood over the years, and we find them to be loyal, loving, athletic, intelligent and incredibly cuddly. Petra will be available after spay and medical clearance.

Applications at:

http://dogwoodanimalrescue.org/adoption-application-dogs/

You can follow us on social media at:

https://.www.instagram.com/dogwoodanimalrescue/
https://.www.facebook.com/.DogwoodAnimalRescue/

Making a difference, one animal at a time.
