Petal's Story
**WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF FOSTER HOMES** Homeward Bound Dog Rescue is an all volunteer rescue organization and all our dogs and puppies are in foster homes - we are not a shelter and do NOT have a facility where we house our dogs. For adoption information go to: www.homewardbounddogrescue.com. You must fill out an application online as we do NOT accept applications at our clinics.

Petal is a 3-month-old Lab mix who weighs approximately 22 pounds. Even with her long legs, she looks much smaller in person! We expect Petal to grow into a medium-sized dog.

This sweet girl is off to a fantastic start with house training. She hasn't had any accidents (fingers crossed!), and she sleeps through the night without any potty breaks. Although she will need someone to let her out for potty breaks during the day, like any puppy would at this age.

Petal can be shy when meeting new people and appreciates having time to warm up. Her foster parents believe that she is used to having her pack to give her extra confidence. .This looks like her freezing and/or walking away to hide when approached with quick movements. Because of this, she'd do best with children who are old enough to understand and respect her boundaries until she warms up. Once she knows you she will willingly walk up for pets, lean into you, cuddle, and/or run around the backyard with you and/or doggy friends.

Petal enjoys other dogs, especially those who are patient and allow her a little time to get comfortable. Once she feels safe, she's all in—ready to chase, wrestle, and play! She's also perfectly content with entertaining herself with toys, although stuffed animals don't stand much of a chance—she considers removing the stuffing part of the fun!

Like most young puppies, Petal is still learning to walk on a leash and will benefit from continued training and positive experiences (treats and encouragement). Every day she becomes more comfortable and she's looking for a family who will help her continue to blossom.

If you're looking for a gentle, affectionate puppy who loves cuddles, enjoys playing with canine friends, and is ready to grow into an amazing lifelong companion with a little guidance and love, Petal may be the perfect match :)

Our adoption clinics are held one Saturday a month at our facility in Schenectady on John Street, located directly behind Boulevard Bowl (Erie Boulevard) from 10 am to 12 pm (directions are on our website). We require an approved application before we consider anyone for an adoption - so filling out the application is your first step. Once your application has been reviewed, you will receive an email invitation to attend an adoption event. Different dogs and puppies go up for adoption EVERY WEEK so please feel free to visit the site and click on the Petfinder link for updates as we are adopting dogs out in between adoption events. Puppies and dogs up to 2 years old are $395. Dogs over 2 years old are $295. 100% of the adoption fees go to help us save more dogs.
