Pepper M's Story

Pepper is a 12 year old male (neutered) mini schnauzer. He came in as an owner surrender on December 20, 2024 through no fault of his own. His previous owner passed and their family members were not able to keep him. Pepper has an easygoing, loving and chill personality; no drama here. He does bark if someone knocks on the and door settles down when asked. There are 3 small dogs in our home that he gets along with however, he does NOT like cats and needs to be in a cat-free home. He has a strong prey drive and gets excited when he sees squirrels and birds. Pepper weighs in at 30 pounds. We are working on weight management with daily exercise and a feeding schedule. He has good leash manners and likes walks with lots of sniffing. He loves people and follows us around making sure he knows where we are in the house. Pepper shows some separation anxiety and barking for a short period when we leave home. He’s a great night-time sleeper and wants to be in the same room as you. He doesn’t show a lot of interest in playing with toys, rather he likes to get a toy and use it as a chin rest. Bones aren’t his thing as he’s had a lot of teeth extracted. It’s not clear what his history is with crates, but he does use the crate as an option to nap. He doesn’t mind riding in the car and settles down in the seat and rides without any anxious feelings. He loves receiving affection and scratches behind the ears are his favorite, but anywhere will do. He doesn’t ask to get on the furniture and he doesn’t jump on people. It’s not clear how he feels about kids as he's not been exposed since we got him as a foster. Pepper is house trained and goes out with the rest of the pack for bathroom breaks and has had zero indoor accidents.

Applications may be submitted at hbschnauzerrescue.com

Dogs will only be adopted to residents of the following: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and DC.

Adopters must agree to take the dog through obedience training within 3 months of adoption (unless the dog is over age 10).

Adopters must agree to keep the dog current on vaccinations and heart worm, flea, tick prevention on a year round basis.
