Pepper's Story

Meet Pepper ?? the spicy little Shih Tzu who’s calmed down (a bit).
Pepper has been with us a little over a year now and is still waiting for her perfect home. Let’s be clear though this isn’t your regular Shih Tzu. She definitely puts the shit in Shih Tzu.
When we first got her, Pepper was found in someone’s yard, completely untouchable. You couldn’t lay a hand on her without her biting out of fear. Then things got even worse she and several other dogs were stolen and neglected by a so-called foster. Thankfully, we got her back (no thanks to AC or the police), but it added more trauma and set us back.
I decided to foster her myself since most people won’t take on a dog who bites. To be fair, they weren’t unprovoked bites they were her way of saying, “I’m scared and I don’t trust you.” Slowly but surely, with space and patience, Pepper started to trust again.
Now? She’s a little weirdo, and sometimes it feels like a one-sided relationship with her but hey, we’ve all been there.
Pepper is estimated to be 8–10 years old. She’s fully vetted, heartworm negative, UTD, microchipped, and even had a tiny growth removed from her eye. She weighs around 15–20 lbs, though she’s currently shaved down (and she does need sedation for grooming).
Here’s the rundown:
• Kids: Absolutely not—she’s petrified of them (same, girl).
• Men: Gets the side-eye treatment.
• Women: She’s much more comfortable with them.
• Other dogs/cats: Fine, as long as they’re calm and not in her face.
• Lifestyle: She’s simple. She loves her crate, doesn’t care about the couch, enjoys walks, and always potties outside. Just know she’ll need a fenced yard at first, because you won’t get a leash on her until she feels comfortable.
• Pickups/carrying: Hard pass.
At heart, Pepper is low-maintenance—she eats, sleeps, relaxes in her crate, and will keep you laughing with her quirks.
We know it’s a long shot finding her the right home, but we’re overwhelmed and want her to finally have the love and attention she deserves.
?
