Pepper's Story

Meet Pepper — Our MOST IMPROVED Doggie! Pepper is 3 years old, weighs just 37 pounds, and is proof that amazing transformations happen when a dog is given time, patience and a chance.

Pepper's story isn't an easy one. She was a stray, desperately trying to find a safe place for her puppies when someone attempted to catch her. He managed to get a rope around her neck and drag her away. As you can imagine, that experience left a lasting impression. For Pepper, having a collar or leash put around her neck brought all that trauma flooding back.

Pepper was separated from her puppies, and heartbreakingly, they all passed away. When a local person reached out for help with Pepper we couldn't say no.

When Pepper first came to Circle 2 Rescue, she was understandably shy and incredibly sensitive. She spent much of her time quietly observing from the safety of her favorite hiding spot. Something as simple as walking on a leash was frightening.

But look at her now. This girl has blossomed!

One of Pepper's favorite things today is going for a leash walk! She happily heads out to explore the neighborhood, enjoys adventures with her foster family, brewery patio outings and trips to the dog park where she can stretch her legs and make new canine friends.

Think about that for a minute: the leash that once represented one of the most frightening experiences of her life is now one of Pepper's favorite things. That is one heck of a transformation.

And underneath it all is the same sweet, soulful Pepper who was there from the beginning. Once she decides you're safe, she loves deeply and completely. She comes when called, enjoys cuddles, and is perfectly content curling up beside her people. She has become a wonderful companion and simply wants to be included in whatever her humans are doing.

Pepper is also a dream in the house. She is house trained, respectful, trustworthy and wonderfully well-mannered. She lives happily with other dogs and enjoys both playtime and settling down when the fun is over.

As an Australian Cattle Dog, Pepper is smart, observant, loyal and eager to learn. And she has shown us just how much she can accomplish when someone gives her the time and encouragement she needs.

Pepper is, without question, one of our MOST IMPROVED doggies. We couldn't be more proud of how far she has come.

About Pepper:

3 years old
Just 37 pounds — the perfect medium size
Australian Cattle Dog
House trained & leash trained
Loves walks, adventures, brewery patios and dog parks
Smart, loyal and eager to learn
Well-mannered and respectful in the home
Circle 2 Rescue's Most Improved Doggie!

Pepper's journey is a beautiful reminder that sometimes the dog who needs a little extra time is the one who ends up stealing your whole heart.

She doesn't need someone to "fix" her.
