Meet Pepper

Somewhere over the rainbow... Pepper knows her home is out there! (And how nice that it was warm enough for sprinkler time today!)
Just like her namesake, this petite lady is quite sweet and a little bit spicy. Pepper is an attentive, affectionate, bright, and curious lady. With a good head on her shoulders, she already knows how to sit politely on command and to take treats gently. This happy, spunky, friendly girl seems quite eager to meet new people and make friends. She is also quite soft, and lovely to pet. While she comes across as more feisty at the kennel, it might largely be her way of saying she is a bit tired of kennel life, as she has been much more laid back on walks offsite! This pint sized dynamo is ready to find her home.
Pepper arrived at the kennel with a luxating patella, or problem with one of her kneecaps, for which she will need surgery. Friends of CITY DOGS Cleveland will cover the cost, Pepper just needs to find a home where she can go through the recovery... and then get back to enjoying being a dog! She is around 2 years old and weighs 40 lbs.

The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be.

Our Adoption Process...
Here's a little about how things work:
All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. You must schedule a meet with a dog in advance - we are not currently accepting walk-ins. Please look online first to see if there are any dogs you think would be a good fit for your home before scheduling a meet. To get the process started, visit and fill out the form. One of our adoption counselors will get in touch to schedule and confirm your meet! At the kennel, an adoption counselor will introduce you and your family to the adoptable dogs, share information we know about them, and discuss our suggested ways for successfully integrating a new dog into your home. You are welcome to meet multiple dogs. If the dog you adopt is already fixed, he or she may leave with you that day - otherwise, the dog can go home after receiving the spay or neuter surgery.)

About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through a behavioral and medical assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. We cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog once they are in the home. Most of our dogs are picked up as strays, so we do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if most of them are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. We do have some dogs in foster homes, where they will have more information about how the dog is in a home environment. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption.

Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within two weeks of leaving the kennel. All dogs receive their DAPPL, Rabies, and Bordatella vaccines, though you may be required to get follow up boosters. All dogs come microchipped and with a Cuyahoga County license.?
