Penny's Story

Meet Penny. She is a ½ Chihuahua and ½ Dachshund mix, we call them “chiweenies”. Penny is 6 years old and weighs 24 pounds.

Penny was owner surrendered when her senior family was no longer able to care for her due to illness. She came to the Paws and Claws program a few months ago with a skin condition that we have been treating. She has responded well to the treatment and her coat is beautiful. She is on medication that keep her comfortable that she will need to take from now on.

Penny has been tested for heartworm and lyme disease, both are negative. She is spayed and has had her teeth cleaned. She is living happily in a foster home while she waits to be chosen for adoption.

Penny loves other dogs and cats but she is very shy around people she does not know. It takes her a while to feel safe and comfortable in a new place with new people. Once that adjustment time is over she is a very loving little girl. She is housebroken with a doggie door and fenced yard where she can go out when she needs to. She will use a puppy pad if the weather is too bad to go outside.

Penny likes her crate with the door open for naps and travels well in it with the door closed.
