Penny's Story

My name is Penny. I came to the shelter as a stray. I am 6 months old and weigh approximately 29 pounds. If you are interested in adopting me please come to the shelter and get to know me. If you are interested in this animal and are not from the county please read the ADOPTING A PET section on the front page. Animals must be altered before leaving the local area at your expense. NO EXCEPTIONS! Most vets prefer not to do surgery on animals under 4 months of age. We are located off Route 11 in Edinburg on Landfill Road, next to the flea market. Our hours of operation are Monday thru Friday from 10 AM to 4 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM to 2 PM. We are closed Sundays and all Holidays.

Shenandoah County Animal Shelter's Adoption Policy

Individuals wishing to adopt an animal from our shelter must complete a screening form. After the form is processed, there is a $15.00 adoption fee for cats, $25.00 for dogs, plus a $25.00 charge for cats and $35.00 for dogs, for spaying or neutering. It is required by Virginia State Law and the Shenandoah County Ordinance that all animals adopted from the shelter be spayed or neutered. A special voucher will be given to the “adoptee” for the amount of deposit. The voucher can then be applied toward the cost of spaying and neutering at participating veterinarian offices.
