Penny's Story
Meet me Saturday 10/3 at the Pleasanton Farmer's Market, in Delucchi Park, from 9 am - 1 pm! (4501 First Street, Pleasanton).

Sweet Penny is a little shy girly but still has a huge heart to love and be loved! She loves to be around people and will always gravitate towards a crowd, but she is still working on her social skills. Penny is definitely coming out of her shell in foster care and is starting to be more confident with meeting new people (of all ages) and when she's really comfortable, you will see her silly and playful side!

She's got a big appetite and loves scrambled eggs mixed with her wet food. She loves walks and is GREAT on the leash! She doesn't like cats or big dogs but she always wants to befriend small dogs even if they are overly friendly! She may do well with other doggy friends in her forever home. Penny is fully potty trained

Penny is such a sweetheart! She will need someone kind, gentle and patient with her.

Penny was transferred to Valley Humane on 9/16 from Stockton Animal Services. She had been found stray. Penny weighs 10.2 pounds and is a senior dog (aged between 7 and 10 years).

This patient has been diagnosed with periodontal disease (also known as gum disease or dental disease.) This disease is extremely common in dogs and cats, especially as they age (however, it can also occur in younger animals due to genetic and other factors.) Periodontal disease occurs when bacterial plaque causes inflammation of the gums and eventual destruction of the bone in which the teeth are anchored. This patient had a dental cleaning recently at VHS. At that time the patient was anesthetized and all the teeth were cleaned with an ultrasonic scaler to remove tartar and plaque. The teeth were then polished to prevent premature tartar build up. The teeth were visually evaluated for fractures, and periodontal disease. Teeth that were determined to be unhealthy were removed. Dental care is an on-going process that will need to be addressed for the life of this patient. The adopting family is encouraged to discuss continuing dental care for this patient with their family veterinarian.

Do you have questions about this animal or are you ready to take the next step to adoption?
