Penny's Story

A060720 Penny; spayed female Belgian Malinois mix; est. 9 months; 50.20 lbs
Contact: Calaveras County Animal Services
(209)754-6509
Website: https://animal.calaverasgov.us/
Email: animal@calaverascounty.gov

This pretty young lady is Penny, another member of a large group of Malinois/Shepherd dogs to arrive at the shelter from one location. Kept in kennels and crates for most of their lives, these dogs have lacked appropriate developmental and healthy living experiences. They were a bit undernourished, as well. Although they were initially fearful in the chaotic shelter, they have proven to be quite sweet-tempered and easy to handle, allowing us to coax them into friendship with multiple new humans as they've become more comfortable. Additionally, they all seem to get along great with other dogs.

Pretty Penny is as sweet as she is beautiful. She is very affectionate and wants lots of contact with her human friends. When you sit down, she'll climb right up into your lap for snuggles (and to check your pockets for cookies). In fact, she's a super hugger; since she does tend to jump up for those hugs (and kisses when she can get them), a home with only older children may be best.

As marvelously graceful and athletic as Malinois can be, which Penny certainly is, she is a bit of dweeb on leash, wandering away then coming back and tangling up in our legs. She's more of a flibbity jibbit than a rough puller, though, which is nice.

She still has some fearfulness around cars. Basically still a pup at just nine months, she's still a youngster and will likely mellow and grow in confidence as she matures. With consistent leash training, as well, she'll likely make a lovely companion for walkies and active living.

Penny has been spayed and can go home with you right away.

She is not yet house trained. 💩

A home with NO cats is recommended for Penny.

As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
