Penny's Story

Meet Penny - Looking for a second chance at love!

Female / 5 years old / 55lbs / UTD on shots / Spayed / Good with: Kids, Cats & Dogs

Background

Meet **Penny**! This beautiful Shepherd/Retriever mix was rescued from a Manitoba reserve through Sea Paws Rescue and has been loved by her family for the past five years. Due to unforeseen changes in their family circumstances, and absolutely no fault of Penny's, they're making the difficult decision to find Penny the wonderful home she deserves.

Penny is approximately 5 years old, spayed, microchipped, up to date on her core vaccinations, and in excellent health with no known medical concerns.

Personality

Penny is the definition of a sweetheart. She absolutely loves people and isn't shy about asking for affection, her signature move is giving gentle head bumps, which she seems to think are the perfect way to say hello! She's incredibly affectionate, enjoys being close to her people, and has a calm, loving nature around the home.
She's a social girl who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and loves running, playing, and chasing with her canine friends. Penny has also lived peacefully with cats and would be happy to share her home with a feline companion. She has done well with children and has always been a gentle, friendly presence.
When the day winds down, Penny is perfectly content curling up on the couch for a well-earned nap while her family relaxes nearby.

Ideal Home

Penny is looking for a family that loves getting outdoors and can give her the active lifestyle she's ready for. While she's happy relaxing at home, she'd truly thrive with longer walks, hikes, adventures, or plenty of opportunities to explore and play. A home with a securely fenced yard would be a bonus, as Penny has a healthy curiosity and loves watching (and chasing!) squirrels and other small critters. Because of this, she'll need to stay on leash or in secure areas until her recall improves. She would do well in many different types of homes, whether that's with another friendly dog to play with or as the only pup soaking up all the attention. She could also happily live with dog-savvy cats and respectful children.

Training & Activity

Penny is an easy dog to have around the house. She's fully house trained, can be left home alone during the workday without any separation anxiety or destructive behaviours, and doesn't require a crate (she actually prefers to avoid small enclosed spaces). She already knows several basic commands, including **sit, paw, lay down,** and **stay**, and she's eager to learn, especially if treats are involved! Like many enthusiastic dogs, Penny could use some help polishing her leash manners, as she gets excited on walks and likes to pull. She would also benefit from continued recall training since chasing squirrels is currently much more exciting than coming when called!

She rides nicely in the car and enjoys having the window cracked open to take in all the smells, although she can be a little nervous during busier drives.

Short Summary

If you're looking for a loyal best friend with a heart of gold, Penny might just be your perfect match. She's affectionate, friendly, wonderful with other dogs and cats, and has all the makings of an amazing family companion. With a little continued training and an active home that can keep up with her adventurous spirit, Penny is sure to reward her new family with endless love, happy tail wags, and plenty of unforgettable memories!

Apply here to Adopt
http://seapawsrescue.org/adoptionApplication.html
