Penny's Story
Meet Penny

This 4-year-old, 51 lb mixed breed sweetheart is such a joy to have around. Penny is sweet, gentle, and affectionate, and absolutely adores her people. She is very loyal and loving, offering the best cuddles and companionship. She prefers to be where her people are and is happiest relaxing nearby or snoozing on the couch but can also chill independently.

Penny lost her family due to a housing crisis, and it's clear she was deeply loved. Now she's ready to bring that same love into her next forever home. She's smart and eager to please her humans and picks up training quickly.

She is fully recovered from hip surgery (previously had an issue with her left hip) and is doing wonderfully with no restrictions walking or running. Despite everything she's been through, she remains playful, curious, and full of heart.

Penny has been in foster care for a few months and each of her fosters has fallen in love with her. Here's what we know:

• COMMANDS KNOWN: Penny knows sit, stay, paw, down, crate, and even understands some commands in Spanish. She's a quick learner and could easily expand her skills with more training!

• LEASH MANNERS AND OTHER DOGS: Penny walks on leash and has made tremendous strides working on leash pulling. She is a bit fearful of and reactive towards other dogs and gets distracted / on alert if dogs are very close by on walks. However she easily moves on from them if she sees them from a distance. She continues to improve with practice and consistency. We have not formally introduced her to another dog so don't know how she'd do being around another dog long term.

• KIDS: Penny is friendly towards kids if she meets them on walks or in her foster's apartment building. She has patiently received treats from a toddler in the elevator! However she hasnt had any one on one time with children yet.

• CRATE AND HOUSE TRAINING: Penny is housetrained and only goes potty outside. She is very flexible with her potty schedule. She also loves her crate and sleeps well in it over night and when her fosters are out of the house without any complaints!

•WHERE PENNY EXCELS: Penny is very food motivated and enjoys learning new skills, being pet, snuggling, giving kisses, sleeping (anywhere!), her crate, and playing with bones! Most of all she loves her people and would spend all day cuddling with her humans if she could. She is so well behaved in the house (a great work from home buddy!) but also does well left alone in her crate for extended periods.

THINGS PENNY IS WORKING ON: outside walking manners and being in close proximity to other dogs; meeting new people in her space - she does fine meeting people outside but sometimes gets nervous when meeting new people in the apartment. We are working on introductions so she feels safe meeting new guests.

If you're looking for a loving, cuddly companion who will happily share your couch, your snacks (appropriately!), and your heart, Penny is your girl.
