PENELOPE's Story
Well HEY there! My name is PENELOPE (but in Mexico, they call me ‘Peluche'), and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

Breed: Terrier Mix
Age: approx. 1.5 years old
Gender: Female
Weight: 38 lbs (17.2 kgs)
Height: 61 cm (paws to top of my head)
Length: 71 cm (head to butt)
Neck Circumference: 35 cm
Chest Circumference: 59 cm
Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY - I was rescued from the streets of Ecatepec. My belly was so swollen that they thought I was just about to give birth. They took me to the vet immediately only to find that the little ones didn't make it. It was a very sad time for me! I was grieving, sad, filthy, and malnourished (photos of me being rescued are at the end of my profile). While I was being treated at the vet for 15 full days for all the horrors I had been through, they noticed that my head was tilting to one side. After some tests, it appeared that I was beaten so badly that my head was stuck in that position!

While my headtilt has slightly improved over time, after continued monitoring, my local vet has diasgnosed the condition as Vestibular Syndrome. It's unlikely that my headtilt will improve further, and while it's not too serious now, the timeline for worsening symptoms is a bit unknown. Thankfully, this is not slowing me down, I am an otherwise happy and healthy gal!

TEMPERAMENT - Despite what I have been through, I am very gentle and sweet. A real “mom” of a dog. I even made friends with the mascot outside of the vet's office! He was so funny. I would love to live in a relax, calm house where I can just be a cuddle bug and show you all the affection that I have been denied my whole life. Seriously, I love it! I am even a good girl in the car.

ENERGY LEVEL - Medium - I am a young pup who needs a sufficient amount of daily exercise (both physical and mental). Once I'm tuckered out, I am more than happy to snooze and cuddle!

GETS ALONG WITH:

Kids – Unknown.
Dogs – I am pretty indifferent. I will say hi and sniff at the park and shelter, and I will happily go on a group walk! But, I would prefer to be cuddled by people.
Cats – Unknown.

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I'm not too sure how I'll react around cats/squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

Leash skills – Work in progress but I am doing a good job so far (here, here and here).
House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :)

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

I am spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.
I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying North.
As mentioned in my bio, I've recently been diagnosed with Vestibular Syndrome. My rescuers are happy to answer any questions or provide more information, and recommend talking with your local vet!

NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

My adoption fee is $840.00 CAD (including 5% GST & 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.

-------------------------------------

DISCLAIMER:

Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process.

The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.

WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. These are strictly "best guesses" based on veterinary exams and their educated estimates.
