Penelope's Story

Meet Penelope

Penelope is a 13lb, 2.5 year-old Rat Terrier mix with a remarkable story of resilience.

She came to us from a severe hoarding and neglect situation, arriving extremely emaciated, shut down, and heartworm positive. Her world had been very small, but with time, patience, and love, Penelope has worked incredibly hard to build her confidence, regain her health, and discover what it means to feel safe.

Today, she's completed her heartworm treatment, finished all of her veterinary care, and is ready to find a family of her own.

Penelope is looking for a patient, understanding home that will give her the time she needs to settle in and adjust to new surroundings. While change can be overwhelming for her at first, the reward is a loyal companion unlike any other.

Why you'll fall in love with Penelope:
She is incredibly affectionate. Once she trusts you, she's the definition of a Velcro dog. If she had her way, she'd spend every moment curled up beside you (or on your lap!), burrowed under a cozy blanket, soaking up all the love she missed out on.
Once she knows she's safe, she walks beautifully on a leash and is happiest simply being with her person.
She is sweet and gentle, and every new experience she conquers is another reminder of just how far she's come.

She gets along well with other dogs, though she's a little possessive of her favorite spot: your lap! She'd much rather be the one soaking up your cuddles. She is nervous but polite with cats. Penelope currently lives with children and does well but older kids would be best in a new environment. Toddlers can be a bit scary and unpredictable to her.

Penelope isn't looking for perfection—she's looking for someone willing to see the beautiful dog she's become and continue helping her bloom. The patience you invest in her will be repaid with unwavering devotion and endless snuggles.

Could you be the person to show Penelope that she's finally home?

If you'd like to open your heart to this sweet girl, we'd love to hear from you. Apply below.
Prior to meeting or adopting any of our wonderful animals, we ask that you please fill out our online application: https://form.jotform.com/223268341300041

We are a 100% volunteer organization and have to work other jobs to pay the bills. Please give us up to 48 hours to respond.

Submission of an adoption application does not obligate you to adopt nor does it guarantee approval. We look forward to hearing from you.

Please note all animals in the home must be altered, up to date on vaccines, and be on heartworm prevention. We understand there are some special cases and will take those into consideration.
