The adopters MUST agree to keep Penelope on Simperica Trio monthly until she is re-tested (at SCAR's vet and expense) in September 2026 which will determine whether she is then heartworm-free or requires an additional treatment. Penelope MUST stay on a SCAR-approved heartworm preventative monthly for the rest of her life to avoid reinfection. A dog that gets infected with heartworm disease twice in their life can experience significant damage to their heart, lungs, and other organs.
