PENELOPE's Story
Meet Penelope – Professional Lap Dog (in Training) If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a dog who believes she was meant to live in your lap... allow us to introduce Penelope. She is fully convinced she is a lap dog and will attempt to prove this theory at every available opportunity. On a recent Doggy Day Out, Penelope got to see ducks at Tingley Beach, met admirers in a coffee shop, and hung out with dogs in an ABQ backyard. She loved it! She was good with the new dogs, was good with strangers, and was good in public spaced. Car rides? Clip her in–it has been a while since she has had that pleasure! After chasing balls on the patio, she flopped for a rest on the floor before heading back to the shelter. Penelope is wildly interested in other dogs and thinks everyone she sees is a potential new best friend, but we recommend a meet and greet to make sure they have a good vibe. She’s super treat-motivated and will gladly work for snacks — honestly, snacks are her love language. When it comes to toys and balls, Penelope lives for the chase... but the return part of fetch? That’s not in her job description. Expect dramatic zoomies, joyful prancing, and random bursts of “I have no brakes!” energy. She is still learning her manners and could use some basic training on leash. She might pull, but a harness helped her walk much more politely on her recent day out. With all that energy, older children are a better fit. If you’re ready for a goofy, snack-obsessed, lap-seeking cuddle missile with a heart of gold and a need for some guidance, Penelope the cattle dog mix is waiting to crawl right into your life... and your lap.
