Peggy's Story

A060702 Peggy; spayed female Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix; age 2 years; 60 lbs
Contact: Calaveras County Animal Services
(209)754-6509
Website: https://animal.calaverasgov.us/
Email: animal@calaverascounty.gov

Introducing you to Peggy, another adult member of a large group of Malinois/Shepherd dogs to arrive at the shelter from one location. Kept in kennels and crates for most of their lives, these dogs have lacked appropriate developmental and healthy living experiences. They were a bit undernourished, as well. Although they were initially fearful in the chaotic shelter, they have proven to be extremely sweet-tempered and easy to handle, allowing us to coax them into friendship with multiple new humans as they've become more comfortable. Additionally, they all seem to get along great with other dogs.

Peggy has been held back from posting for adoption till now because this girl has been BUSY! She raised a whole buncha puppies, who are now weaned. We're very proud of her momma skills. Now she gets to start a new life as a single gal, hopefully in a home that will treat her like the queen she is.

When out on walkies, Peggy pulls a bit but not hard. We think she's just really really excited to be out and about, but she'd benefit from training. She likes to hug and crawl into laps but isn't too pushy about it. She shares the general attributes of the Malinois group: quiet, sweet-tempered, affectionate, and athletic. We love their sweet faces and gentle eyes.

Peggy doesn't yet really grok the game of fetch, but loves to play a rousing game of TAG YOU'RE IT.

Full of love and active energy, paired with gorgeous golden-coated beauty, Peggy has the potential to be a truly lovely companion. Malinois are famously active, intelligent dogs who need stimulation and exercise to thrive. And to not eat your shoes. This group seems to be relatively chill for Malinois, but Peggy and all her compatriots will likely do best in homes with lots of attention and an active lifestyle.

She keeps her inner kennel pretty tidy; though we can't make guarantees, she may be easy to house train.

No cats, please.

As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
