Pearl *Forever in Foster Care*'s Story
Pearl Update - Spring 2026

Pearl has had a complicated health journey since coming into our care last Fall. She is a 10 year old Bichon we rescued from a puppy mill. It has taken months to safely proceed with her vetting.

We learned early on that she had heart issues. Heart medication was initiated and once deemed safe we were able to do her dentistry. Her mouth was full of rotten teeth. After giving her time to recover we were able to spay her. Needless to say, Pearl’s well being improved greatly once she recovered from these procedures.

Unfortunately, after her recent follow-up cardiac ultrasound we have learned she is in late stage heart disease.

Due to her fragile state we have decided to keep Pearl as a forever foster dog. It would be too stressful for her to transition to a new home. We are grateful that her foster family want her to stay with them. They have provided Pearl with a loving and stable home, helping her adjust to living outside of the puppy mill.

They have lovingly introduced her to a beautiful, clean back yard and a warm, loving home. They have taught her how to walk on leash and eat from a bowl. She has recently started playing with their other dogs.

We are thankful to our donors for their support which helps us save deserving dogs like Pearl. We will do everything we can to make sure Pearl is comfortable and happy!

_____________________________________________________________________

Pearl came to us from a SW Ontario puppy mill. She is around 7-9 years of age and spent her entire life being used as a breeding dog. We are so happy to say that those days are behind her and she has joined our rescue.

Pearl sadly has some health issues that we are working through before she is ready for adoption. Primarily she has a heart murmur. We have had an ultrasound performed and she is starting medication. Once we ensure she is responding well to the meds, she will be spayed and have a dental and then she will be ready to find her forever home.

She will be looking for a relatively quiet home with another friendly dog if possible. She is so happy when she is outside in the yard so we will definitely want her to have a safely fenced yard. For a puppy mill mama, she is quite friendly but will still need some patients to grow her confidence.

Please keep watching our page for updates!
