Pearl's Story

Meet Pearl, a gentle one and a half year old Great Pyrenees with a heart as soft as her beautiful white coat. Pearl is part of an Illinois case that we continue to work on where owner lets his dogs wander and they are at risk of being shot by neighbors.

Three months ago, Pearl arrived at her foster home unsure of the world and new things as she had not had a lot of socialization. With the help of the resident fluffy dogs in the home, Pearl has made incredible progress and has gained some confidence.

Pearl is sweet, quiet, and wonderfully calm. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats, is excellent with children and strangers, and is fully housebroken-she has never had an accident indoors. She enjoys both relaxing inside and spending time outdoors, and while she's still polishing her leash skills, she's eager to learn. She loves snuggles, belly rubs, snacks and has recently discovered the joy of playing in the snow. She does the Pyr Lean, gently asking for our attention. Pearl is a loving, easygoing companion who would make a peaceful and devoted addition to any home.
Being fostered in Rockford, IL

Pearl is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped.

Adoption Requirements
*A secure, visible fence
*A home visit
*Another dog in the home
*A vet reference with at least a two year vet history

Adopters can be located in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan. We are able to help transport to those states.

Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri's Adoption Policy
Applicants must have a secure and visible fence and children in the home must be 12 or older. In order for your application to be approved, you must also pass a home check and a vet check which includes having at least a two year vet history. All of our dogs can be adopted in Missouri and surrounding states that we are currently able to transport to: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Arkansas. Our adoption fees are: Dogs 1 year and older: $400 Puppies under 1 year: $450 All of our rescued Pyrenees are fully vetted prior to adoption, spayed/neutered (dogs 1 year and older), microchipped, up-to-date on immunizations, and up-to-date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. The adoption process begins when you complete an online Adoption Application, naming either one or a few of our available dogs you are interested in adopting. Completing an application does not restrict you to a specific dog, nor does it obligate you to adopt. Once we have received your application and determined if you are a good match for the dog you are interested in, a representative from our adoption team will contact you to go over our process in its entirety. From there, we will put you in contact with the foster parent, so you may set up a meet and greet with the dog, in person when possible or video chat if that isn't an option. Before adopting, keep in mind that many of our dogs prior to being rescued and placed in foster homes have never lived inside a home. Some dogs may never have been walked on a leash, socialized, house-trained or spent time with other animals. Our fosters work with these dogs on many of these issues to prepare them for their furever homes, but these dogs will still need patience and understanding as they learn to adapt when they come to you. Rescued dogs need adopters who will not give up on them if they have accidents in the house, pull on the leash, dig in the yard, or act nervous or frightened. An adoption will be successful only if the adopter is committed to seeing the dog through the adjustment period. The rewards are the unconditional love and loyalty of a wonderful companion, and the satisfaction of knowing you have given a rescued dog a better life. If at any time after adoption, you decide you cannot keep the pet for any reason, the dog must be returned to Great Pyrenees Rescue of Missouri.
