Pearl's Story

Petite, playful, and full of heart, Pearl is a young Doberman (about 1.5 years old) who’s ready to find her forever family. She may be small in size, but she’s big on love and personality.

Pearl was found wandering the streets of Kansas with her two littermates, Ember and Sophie. She came into rescue underweight and unsure, but her resilience shines through. She’s blossomed into a happy, affectionate “Velcro” dog who loves nothing more than being close to her people.

Pearl does well with the resident pets (2 cats and 2 dogs) in her foster home, as she knows them and feels secure. However, like her brother, Ember, she can be reactive out of fear when she sees unfamiliar dogs or is caught off guard by strangers. She’s making steady progress with training and will thrive in a home that continues to build her confidence with positive reinforcement and patience. As of now, she has pretty strong leash reactivity towards other dogs, but can warm up to people in the yard.

While she is slow to warm up to strangers, once she does, Pearl is wonderfully social and affectionate and seriously wants to be on top of you at all times. She's only met one kid under 10 years old, but after a slow introduction, they were playing in no time! With her gentle and eager-to-please nature, she’ll do well in a calm, understanding home.

Pearl already knows her basic commands (sit, stay, touch, down, wait, kennel), is house-trained, and is crate-trained. She sleeps through the night and feels safe in a sturdy kennel like a Ruffland, where she happily enjoys her meals and downtime.

Pearl needs an experienced foster home, ideally with handlers familiar with the breed or anxious dogs, and is willing to commit to some behavioral training to teach her to feel more comfortable around new dogs/people.

Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. http://dobermanrescueminnesota.com/adoption-steps/

Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Our foster families are generally located within a 250 mile radius of Minneapolis, MN.

All DRM dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, health checked, microchipped, 4DX tested, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
