Peanut Butter's Story

Meet Peanut Butter — a tiny old soul with a big personality and a heart that refuses to be overlooked.

At 14 years young, this chihuahua mix found himself on a euthanasia list at a rural shelter... but our volunteers knew his story wasn't over. They saw something special in those wise little eyes and made sure he got his second chance.

Peanut Butter is a classic “two-sides-of-the-coin” kind of gentleman. One moment, he's a crotchety old man, grumbling his opinions about the world. The next? He's a soft, sleepy sweetheart, curled up in your lap like he's been there his whole life. And honestly, that's part of his charm.

He's very clear about his boundaries — Peanut Butter prefers not to be picked up and will let you know with a quick nip if he's uncomfortable. He also isn't a fan of anything going over his head, so collars and harnesses aren't his style. Because of this, he'll need a securely fenced yard where he can safely enjoy the outdoors on his own terms.

This little guy mostly uses pee pads and occasionally will let you know when he'd like to go outside. He gets along just fine with calm, respectful dogs who understand that he's a senior who values his space.

Peanut Butter is looking for a quiet, adult-only home where he can truly relax and be himself. A place where his quirks aren't just accepted—but appreciated.

And here's the part his volunteers will tell you with a smile: despite his grumbles, Peanut Butter is a favorite. He gives you fair warning when he's not in the mood, but if you meet him where he is—sit on the floor or a low seat—he'll toddle over, climb into your lap, and drift off to sleep as you gently pet him. It's in those quiet moments that you see just how much love he still has to give.

Even bath time has shown his softer side. Wrapped in a towel and gently placed in a sink, he relaxes and allows care, reminding us that beneath the tough exterior is a little dog who just needs patience and understanding.

Peanut Butter isn't for everyone—but for the right person, he's everything. A perfectly imperfect companion who will fill your home with character, quiet companionship, and the kind of love only a senior dog can give.

PLEASE NOTE: All your current pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention to adopt from Polka Dogz. We only adopt in Florida. All adoption fees go to help all the dogs in the rescue, some of which require extensive medical care. Thank you for caring for the greater good. Adoption fee is $150 and you can adopt me at www.polkadogz.org.

Polka Dogz Pet Rescue's Adoption Policy
A homeless pet is more than one in a million—she's one in 2.7 million. That's the number of adoptable dogs and cats who are still euthanized each year in the United States, simply because too many pets come into shelters and too few people adopt. The number of euthanized animals could be reduced dramatically if more people adopted pets instead of buying them. When you adopt, you save your animal and open up shelter space for another animal who might need it. Polka Dogz saves these dogs from kill shelters especially the medically needy. We fix them up good as new and make them highly adoptable pets. Please support homeless pets and "adopt, don't shop, lives depend on it". We will soon have a property to call our own where people can volunteer, visit, and have a meet and greet with their potential new pet. Stay tuned.
