Peanut's Story

Looking for a giant-sized companion who will happily never leave your side?

Peanut is a cuddly 3-year-old Boerbel mastiff, around 140lbs, who thinks she's a lap dog and will be your favorite shadow once you earn her trust.

While it appears she didn't have a lot of socialization in the beginning of her life, she has been learning how to live in a house and has become quite comfortable (though she's still learning that the TV isn't scary). She suffers from separation anxiety and can be destructive toward items when left alone.

She is nervous about new people and sounds/experiences, so it does take her a little while to warm up. However, she is sweet, empathetic, and will capture your heart with her soulful eyes. Peanut will thrive with an owner experienced with large breeds or someone confident guiding a sometimes fearful, sometimes stubborn 140lb girl. She absolutely adores being outside in a secure space — a fenced yard or even a cozy porch would be her happy place, as she loves lounging on the porch at her foster home. Most of all, watching her open up is incredibly rewarding; beneath her anxiety is a big, goofy sweetheart just waiting to blossom with the right person.

Peanut is agile for her size and gets her energy out with the zoomies, loves playing with her favorite ball, shaking her rope, or chewing bones. She is house trained and crate trained and will use her open crate as her safe space to hang out (though she's also quite the escape artist and needs a very secure crate). She knows basic commands (sit, down, shake, working on stay) and walks well on a leash, though shell go her own pace and needs some coaxing with treats to keep moving sometimes.

Peanut would do best in a family as the only dog, and with patient humans who are committed to helping her continue to overcome her fears. She has a history of playing well with other dogs but has shown resource guarding with food and toys. She is good with kids, but due to her size may be better suited to families with middle-aged/older children.

If you can look past the drool and are ready for giant paws asking for your affection, Peanut will make a wonderful addition to the family. She deserves all the love and will always want to be wherever you are.
