Peaches

Meet Peaches! This 2 year old beautiful brindle girl came to ACCT through no fault of own. We started fostering Peaches on 9/28 and while she's enjoying her time in foster care, she very much wants a forever home to call her own. Here are some things we have learned about her:<br/><br/> Personality: Peaches is a mutt with the happy go lucky disposition of a Golden Retriever. She loves being loved. She started off shy and scared but now she loves meeting new people. She also loves to cuddle, and is a notorious blanket hog! She insists one body part must be touching you at all times when we're on the couch together. She loves being close for chin and back scratches. Peaches taps you with her nose when she wants attention, but if you're busy she'll take the hint and relax on her own or play with toys. Her favorite activities include; sunbathing, tug of war, snuggling with her people. Her favorite sweet treat is strawberries.<br/><br/> Energy level: In her everyday life she is a perfect medium energy, but can get excited if she's in a new place or around new people. Peaches is only about 2 years old so while she is very lazy, she also has bursts of energy throughout the day. She loves her walks, play time, and anytime she gets to go on adventure to a park. Peaches is a great work from home buddy. While we work she either naps or chews on one of her toys or bones. When Peaches has downtime she loves to cuddle with her people, nap peacefully on her bed, and enjoy enrichment treats. She particularly loves chewy bones with peanut butter. <br/><br/><br/> Peaches does great with other dogs! She has gone on play dates with other dogs and has joined ACCT's play group and has done great. She'll happily run around chasing her friends. Check out the videos in her profile to see for yourself!<br/><br/><br/> House training: While in a new environment any dog will need time to adjust, with a regular schedule for going potty, Peaches is left unsupervised at home without accidents. We also reward her with treats and praise whenever she goes to the bathroom outside. <br/><br/> Exercise: Peaches loves walks! She goes on 4 walks a day ranging from 15-45 minutes. She enjoys play time too! She could spend all day playing her favorite game tug of war. On the weekends she enjoys going to parks where she can run around and chase after toys. After she has tired herself out she'll usually settle into her crate or on the couch for a much needed nap. <br/><br/>Leash skills: Peaches is overall easy to handle on walks. She does like to chase birds and squirrels, but everyday is getting better with redirected to pay attention to us instead. If she sees another dog on a walk, we usually try to keep our distance since we don't know the dogs. She may pull a little and focus on the other dog at first but it is easy to redirect her with her favorite high value treat, Swiss cheese.<br/><br/> Crate training: Peaches is crate trained! We crate her at night and she goes in without a problem if we toss in a licky mat or other enrichment item. We also crate her when we leave her at home alone. She is so acclimated to her crate that she will even go in voluntarily for an afternoon nap. We have also left her uncrated sometimes at night or when we run errands and she is very well behaved on her own. <br/><br/><br/> Peaches is extremely food motivated and is not picky with her treats, so training her has been a breeze. She has mastered sit, paw, touch, focus, and she most recently learned down. She even responds well to her name. She loves any kind of enrichment, whether it's a kong toy filled with peanut butter and kibble, a licky mat, or chewing on one of her Nyla bones. She also loves her puzzle toys that make her find where the treats are hidden. <br/><br/><br/> Peaches does well in the car, in fact, she seems to love car rides! She jumps right in and spends the first few minutes checking out her surroundings and looking out the window, but after a few minutes she'll settle down for a nap.
