Patrick - Experienced Adopter Recommended's Story

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas or North Central Texas area.

NAME: Patrick
GENDER: Male (Neutered)
AGE: About 5 years
WEIGHT: About 5.9 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Gets along with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Recommend Adult Only Home or Home with Teenagers

Introducing Patrick! Patrick is a sweet, but shy little guy. He is ready for his forever home, and promises to love you forever.

Patrick a gentle, sensitive guy who’s still learning that the world can be a safe place. At first, he may be shy and unsure — but underneath that is a dog who really wants to love and be loved. With a little patience and a calm environment, he starts to relax, and you’ll see his sweet personality shine through. He’s the kind of dog who will form a deep, special bond with his family.

Patrick was an owner surrender to CRT. Sadly Patricks’s original owners were not very attentive. He had been passed around to four different family members in his first four years of life. They literally kept him isolated in a crate 24 hours a day. He had no family interaction, no interaction with other pets – nothing. He had never been to a vet. Patrick meant nothing to them. A CRT supporter found out about the situation and talked the family into surrendering Patrick to CRT. We were beyond thrilled when the family surrendered him. Our hearts ache for sweet dogs like this. He is the greatest little guy. He did not deserve this beginning in life. We are so happy he is in a CRT foster home and is learning what love is all about. THANK YOU CRT team – another life saved. This guy now gets a 2nd chance at life – let’s work together to find him the perfect home and make his life the best one ever moving forward.

Patrick gets along with other small dogs in his foster home. He has a moderate energy level and has begun playing with other dogs. We even see Patrick starting to do the “play bow” with other dogs, inviting them to play with him! He does not seem to have an interest in playing with toys.

Patrick is a little shy, so we expect that he will be shy when he meets his new family. Once he feels safe and warms up, he wants to be your buddy. Patrick loves to be in your arms and will lovingly give you kisses to return your affection. He has the cutest way of “talking” to you to let you know how much he loves you (he does not bark but he makes the cutest little noises – oh we love this!). Patrick loves climbing up on his Foster Mom and Foster Dad’s laps and spending hours of cuddle time as they watch TV together. He loves to burrow under blankets. Patrick also enjoys exploring the yard and even sunning himself. So if you want company as you drink your coffee on the back patio, Patrick is your guy!

As Patrick continues to settle into his home, he will gain confidence. We have seen a tremendous growth in confidence in the months we have had him. He has a super sweet personality. His tail is constantly wagging and he is so happy to be around you. He has a “man cave” (covered little tepee like dog bed) that is his safe place. His foster Mom works from home and Patrick spends hours in her office, hanging in his man cave waiting for just the right moment to sneak some extra love and attention in! Because he is shy and a little cautious, we would love to find a patient, experienced forever family for him. But oh this guy is a charmer and really melts our hearts.

Our vet estimates that Patrick is about 5 years old. He currently weighs about 5.9 pounds, which is a great size for him. Patrick has a beautiful tan colored coat with white highlights. He has cute ears. His eyes are beautiful. And that brown button nose – oh my!

Patrick is very smart. He is completely potty trained. If you say “let’s go potty” he will immediately go outside with you and potty! He will also use potty pads as a backup plan. He has not had any accidents in his foster home. He is also NOT a “marker” (yeah). Although Patrick will go into a crate, because of his tramatic experiences in a crate, we do not crate him. At night, Patrick crawls into bed and sleeps with his foster family! To date, we have not trained him on a harness and leash.

Patrick would do best in a home with moderate to low energy. He would love to have another dog to grow up with. He would also be fine as an only dog, as long as his family could pay a lot of attention to him. Patrick needs a family who can check on him every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). Due to his shy nature, we recommend an adult only home (or maybe one with teenagers) for Patrick.

Patrick is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ Note: it works best when our application is filled out on a computer versus a phone or tablet. When it submits correctly, the system will send you a copy. Feel free to email us at DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you need help with the application.

Patrick is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. He is ready for adoption. Are you ready to give him a forever home?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $300.00 adoption donation required.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
