Papaya's Story

Papaya came to us from Moreno Valley Shelter along with his brother Wrasse. Both were feral, and it has taken some time for them to open up to volunteers. However, Papaya is the more outgoing one of the pair, and he has been making great strides in his foster home! Papaya has an estimated DOB of June 2018 and he is a great compact size of around 30 pounds. The brothers are both skittish and need help building up trust and confidence around people. Papaya has grown comfortable around familiar volunteers and now greets them with a wagging tail! (This could also be because he's come to learn they come with treats). He is now in foster and while he's a great walker, he's still working on being comfortable interacting with his people in the home. He is fantastic with other dogs of all shapes and sizes and would likely do well in a home where a more confident dog can show him the ropes!

If you'd like to meet Papaya, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. The Barking Lot Rescue's Adoption Policy
Having rescued over 9,000 dogs since our inception in 2006, we are primarily volunteer run with a soft spot for the underdogs. Our Temporary Barkers come from all over the world as we have partnerships with Soi Dog Foundation in Thailand, Four Paws in Cambodia/Vietnam and Ark119 in Korea from which we've taken in over 1000 dog meat trade survivors. We also rescue heavily from Mexico where the abandoned dog population is extensive, the neglect is vast and the stories are heart wrenching. Located on 10 acres in San Diego County, we adopt to anywhere in the US and Canada. Most adopters visit us live to meet our Temporary Barkers, but we also have the capacity to conduct virtual play dates via video. It's our goal to find an excellent match suited to both you and each of our Temporary Barkers. To do such, our adoption process includes an adoption application, a home check, a play date and an adoption contract. Please visit our website today to find your match!
