Palmer's Story

PALMER 4 Year Old Fox Red Goldador Male 70 Pounds Neutered

(Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever)

Background:
Palmer was owned by the same owner for the last 4 ½ years and they feel it best to find him a new home. He is a part of the family and a very well loved dog but with small kids in the home it is the best decision.

What Palmer’s owners have to say about him:
Palmer is a wonderful 4-year-old dog with a big personality and an even bigger love for adventure. He’s full of energy and truly thrives on activities like hiking, swimming, running, and (in his mind) an endless game of fetch.

He’s also very well trained—he knows sit, lay down, and “place,” has strong recall, and doesn’t climb on furniture. Even though he’s around 70 pounds, he still tries to curl up in your lap whenever he can and is always happy to soak up belly rubs. He does great in the car, can be left home alone for a few hours without issue, and while he’s overall very well-mannered, we’re still working on a bit of counter surfing. With a good balance of exercise in the morning and afternoon, Palmer is content to spend most of the day relaxing and napping around the house.
If you’re looking for a fun, loyal, handsome lab who would love to be your adventure buddy, he is your guy!!

What Palmer’s rescue rep has to say:
Palmer is a great dog and he will make a good companion for his next family. He knows many commands: Sit, stay, down, Come, Drop, Leave It, Wait and loves to fetch; hike, run and swim. He loves to ride in the car and does well when he goes to doggie day care.

He can be left at home with no issues and is house trained. (Palmer will counter surf at times so it is best to make sure any food items are removed from the counter.) This is a very hard decision for the family to find Palmer a new home but it is best as there are small kids in the home. Palmer has resource guarding issues and it does seem to be over food items. This may come out a couple times a year but with small kids it is hard to take that chance as the kids can’t see the signs Palmer displays. Palmer will give you a warning look and the owner will swap out the item he is guarding with a filled kong.(He has never bitten anyone over any items.)

Palmer can use better leash skills as at times he can get excited when he sees other dogs on leash and he wants to go and meet them.

Palmer should be the only dog in the home and we do not think he will be a good fit with cats. Palmer should not be in a home with small children. We want a home for Palmer that understands resource guarding and will work with Palmer on this issue. Palmer is a great dog and deserves a wonderful home!

Medical:
Palmer is neutered, up to date on his shots, has taken regular flea and tick and heartguard and is microchipped. He has not had any health issues.

Palmer is currently located in: Mill Valley

If you are interested in adopting SWEET PALMER, please contact Rescue Rep Liz at liz@jobshopsf.com or text 415-613-6374.
