Paige's Story
Dog Name: Paige

Breed: Mixed

Sex: Female

Age: 1 year

Weight: 18 lbs.

Medical Needs: None

Housebroken: Yes. She utilizes a pet door. She will bark if she is crated and needs to go out.

Crate trained: Yes, she does take a few minutes to settle.

Good in the car: She doesn't get sick; however, she should be restrained to keep her from helping you drive.

Good on a leash: She pulls, but she is so light she is easily controlled. We are currently working on loose leash walking.

Energy level: medium, but can also snuggle on your lap for hours.

Need a fenced in yard: no, leashed walks are fine. However, she loves being able to sit outside in a safe area to enjoy the weather.
Dog Friendly: Yes
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No, Paige is perfectly able to entertain herself, although a doggie buddy will keep her from attacking your toes.

Cat Friendly? Not a big fan of them, but she is fostered in a home with several cats bigger than her. She does bark and chase them, but she does get corrected by them. Some of my cats even chase her.

Kid Friendly: Yes. She was previously homed with kids. She will need a slow introduction as she can be fearful when first meeting people.

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 8 since she can be a little mouthy. Also need to understand Paige's desire to make the first move towards friendship.

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Paige is a combination of sugar and spice. On first meeting, she is fearful and will warn you when you get too close. Taking it easy with her will win her over eventually. She prefers you being on her level, tossing treats before handing them to her, and letting her decide when the time is right for a gentle touch. She would prefer a home with few visitors, because strangers stress her out, and she will bark until they have removed themselves from her territory. It may sound like a lot of work to gain her trust, however once you have it you'll find it was worth all the extra effort. She loves to cuddle up next to you; come bounding up on the back of your chair/couch and rubbing her head in your hair; helping you get up off the couch by taking off with your sock or shoe. She loves chew sticks, entertaining herself with toys, and napping on you or next to you.

Fosters Location: Harrington, DE

Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application (if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app
