Ozzy Shetland Sheepdog / Sheltie Kentville, NS
- Coat length
- Good in a home with
- Other dogs, cats.
This handsome guy is Ozzy, a 9 year old Sheltie who came to us when his owner went to an assisted living facility. He is a sweet, well-balanced guy who gets along with people, dogs and cats. Ozzy is a senior and arrived into rescue with some health challenges. He has hypothyroidism and requires a daily pill to manage it. He is overweight and his foster mom put him on a strict diet. He’s shed some pounds but his future family will have to help him maintain his boyish figure. Ozzy has a collapsing trachea but it’s mild and causes him to cough occasionally. For this reason, he will need to be walked on a harness. No collar for this sweet boy. He’s also had a lot of dental work performed. His mouth was in poor condition. There was a lot of infection and pain. He had 8 teeth removed and after antibiotics, he’s feeling a whole lot better. So, here’s what we’re looking for from Ozzy’s ideal family. First of all, Ozzy needs gentle, loving, positive people in his life who understand he’s a senior who loves his down time. He needs a family who is committed to his weight loss and maintenance and are prepared to walk him on a harness. Right now, he’s walked twice a day for about a half kilometer each time. Ozzy loves to lay on the couch or a soft bed and get attention. He is a love sponge. Since his dental, he is learning to eat with fewer teeth. His new family will need to encourage him while ignoring his soft eyes that plead for treats that aren’t on his diet. As Ozzy is a senior who can’t move quickly, we are looking for a home without small children. If there are other dogs in the home, they should be respectful.
