Ozzy's Story

Recently Ozzy celebrated his 6th birthday here at the Center for Pets. We party, he got extra treats, and we sang him happy birthday. But Ozzy deserves to be celebrated for more reasons than one.

His birthday also marked his two year anniversary with us here at the Humane Society. So we want to take the time to celebrate Ozzy, hype him up, give him a boost, and help him get his big break! Every dog deserves a chance to be understood, and Ozzy is no different. He is a sensitive boy, but he is SO easy to understand if you just watch and listen. Being around Ozzy and learning his way of communicating is a rewarding experience in itself. And while body language can be tricky, once you understand Ozzy's, life will be so simple!!

Just what would that life look like? Well take a look at the videos below and you'll see! Movie marathons on the couch, fetch in the yard, and if you don't want to be in the heat Ozzy will keep himself occupied gnawing on sticks or tossing around stuffed toys. Ozzy is nervous around strangers but he isn't reactive so you don't have to worry about the noise! And Ozzy likes other dogs so play dates with friends' dogs is always on the table! Finally, some people adopt dogs to be more active and Ozzy's down for that.. but he is no athlete so he's also fine hanging out at home and sunbathing on the porch like a cat.
Ozzy is not picky, and we'd like to find him a patient environment to take a break in. So if you have a heart for misunderstood dogs, have an opening in your dog pack, or just want to give someone a good home, consider meeting Ozzy today. He is both a foster and adoption candidate. You can reach our team at foster@lynchburghumane.org or adoption@lynchburghumane.org for more information!

Roanoke Valley SPCA's Adoption Policy
Finding your new best friend at the Roanoke Valley SPCA You have an empty spot in your heart and home that only a pet can fill. Maybe you’ve visited the Animal Gallery on the Roanoke Valley SPCA website or seen some of our pets posted on Petfinder.com or other websites. Because many pets do not stay at the shelter long enough to have their photo taken and be placed on the website, you will find more available pets at the facility than online. So, what’s the next step to finding the perfect pet for your home? Meet the pets in person Our adoption process is simple! Come into the shelter and visit with the pets. Our adoption counselors will talk with you about the pets and help you find a good match for your home and lifestyle. You will want to allow yourself ample time to look at all available pets and learn as much as possible about the one(s) that may be appropriate for your lifestyle. We suggest adopters bring resident dogs, children, and family members in to meet the pet prior to making that final decision. Purchasing the basics, such as a crate of appropriate size, leashes, collars, and food and water dishes will make your new pet’s arrival much easier on everyone. Most items can be found for sale in our lobby, so if you fall in love while you are here, you will be all set. Hold Policy The Roanoke Valley SPCA allows reservations on pets at our adoption center only to allow another household member to meet the pet and/or to allow pet-to-pet introductions (typically resident dog meeting potential new dog). A 24-hour reservation may be placed on adult dogs weighing more than 20 lbs. A 4-hour reservation may be placed on dogs under 6 months of age or any dog weighing 19 lbs. or less. If the reserve requirements are satisfied and result in an adoption, the deposit will be applied toward the adoption fee; otherwise, the deposit is non-refundable. About your new pet All pets available for adoption have been behaviorally evaluated, examined by our staff veterinarian, and treated for any health issues. They have been tested for canine/feline diseases, spayed or neutered, received routine vaccinations (appropriate to their age), been microchipped, and have received a heavy dose of love and attention from all of our staff and volunteers.
