Otto's Story
📌 Important Information

• All of our dogs are currently in foster homes in Mexico 🇲🇽, where they receive medical care, socialization, and daily love. They are listed as being in Sherwood, Oregon because that is where our rescue is officially based for adoption purposes.
• To keep our dogs safe and reduce unnecessary stress, we do not fly dogs to Oregon until we have an approved adopter 🏡.
• Once adoption is approved, we coordinate the dog’s flight directly to Portland (PDX) where they arrive ready to go home with their new family. Yes, but please keep in mind that they must be taught to respect the dog’s space, belongings, and food.
• HOUSEBROKEN? NOT 100% YET. As a dog rescued off the street and transitioning from living on indoor tile/ outdoor dirt surfaces in Mexico, they'll need time and patience to adjust to a new environment, but most of our dogs adapt to a potty routine within 1-2 weeks with consistent training.

🐶 Meet OTTO

A month ago, someone stuffed Otto into a sack and threw him away like garbage. When a passerby noticed the sack moving and pulled him out, this tiny senior was so depleted he couldn't even make a sound. Left under a plastic box on the street, covered in ticks and so malnourished his bones showed through his matted fur, Otto waited silently. His eyes were ulcerated, his body shutting down. He'd given up on asking for help.

"The first time I saw him, I honestly wasn't sure he'd make it through the night," his foster mom remembers. "He was just this little lump under a blanket, barely breathing."

But Otto had fight left in him. With medical care, the ulcers in his eyes are healing—he's starting to see the world more clearly now, both literally and figuratively. He walks with purpose now, his tail actually wags. When mealtime approaches, he gets genuinely excited, doing a little dance by his bowl. And when his foster mom comes home? He trots to the door to greet her, this dog who once couldn't even lift his head.

He does guard his food a little—old habits from street survival—but he's not aggressive about it, just needs his own space during meals and a gentle reminder that there's always more where that came from.

What's most remarkable about Otto isn't his recovery, though. It's his personality. Despite everything humans have done to him, he craves affection. He'll curl up in his bed—especially if there's a warm blanket involved—and let out these deep, contented sighs like he's finally safe. His favorite spot is a sun-warmed corner where he's arranged his blue fleece blanket just so, creating the perfect nest. Some mornings, you'll find him there with just his nose poking out, snoring softly.
"He's so grateful for everything," his foster says. "You give him a treat, and he looks at you like you've given him the world. He's just the calmest, sweetest little guy."

Otto isn't looking for adventure or long hikes. At seven years old, he's earned his retirement. He wants a cozy bed, regular meals, someone who'll scratch behind his ears and tell him he's a good boy. He wants to matter to someone.

Otto would thrive in a quiet home where he can be someone's loyal companion. He's still healing, still learning that the world can be kind, but every day he gets a little braver, a little more himself.

Could you be the person Otto's been waiting for—the one who shows him that love isn't something you find in a garbage bag, but something you come home to every single day?

*************************

📝 Ready to apply?
