Otto's Story

Otto is a 2 year old, 55-lb hound who was rescued emaciated from a highway and nursed back to health. He's now a striking, athletic boy with a ton of energy, a big heart, a goofy love of wrestling and running with other dogs, no interest in coexisting peacefully with cattle, and a habit of curling up for cuddles once he's had his exercise.

Otto still shows some of the food guarding he developed while starving and hasn't had formal training yet, but he's smart, social, and eager to learn. He'll do best in a home with other playful dogs, lots of room to run, and patient humans who can help him build on the progress hes already made.

Otto's owner got him a vasectomy before surrendering him to Helpless Hounds, so while he is unable to reproduce, he is not neutered, so it's important to keep in mind that he may still display some typical intact-male behaviors. Think: enthusiastic sniff investigations, I must check out that tree immediately moments, a little extra interest in other dogs, and the occasional dramatic daydream about trotting off on an adventure. Not a bad boy- just a sharp, agile, lovable himbo with a heart of gold and mayyyyybe a flair for mischief.

Helpless Hounds Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
For a complete list of our adoption criteria, please visit: https://www.helplesshounds.com/faqs NOTE: You must complete and submit an application and be approved to adopt prior to being able to meet the dog. We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always try to select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs and try to find the best match for both dog and human. We leave a dog’s profile online until either it has been adopted, or has received several applications. We are a non-profit organization that spends our adoption fees and donations on vaccinations, surgeries, various medical tests, medicines, food and supplies needed by our dogs. Our fees do not cover the overall expenses incurred by the care of our dogs, but they do help defray the costs involved. We thank you for your support.
