Oskar's Story
Meet Oskar! He's had a rough go so far and looking for his forever home. He was born into a puppy mill where he lived until he was about 1.5 years old. He was then given away in the newspaper to a family who ignored his medical needs for several weeks until the point he was so weak he couldn't even stand. They took him to the vet to have him euthanized! Turns out the poor guy had contracted parvo at the puppy mill, given away for a quick fix to not infect the other dogs and then ignored to the point he almost didn't make it.

We have had him in foster for a few months now getting him up to speed with his vetting and socialization.

Oskar is now just about 2 years old. He is up to date on his vetting & was neutered. He is a handsome white factor with liver. He is still on the skinny side and needs to gain some more weight - about 5 lbs would be ideal (he's currently 61 lbs).

Here's what his foster Mom had to say about him:

Oskar is your typical 2 yo GSP, he has energy. He is uncertain of playing, I do not believe he ever got a lot of human interaction in that way before. he will run around the yard with me and will occasionally pick up a toy or a bone. He loves people and definitely wants attention. He is still learning about snuggling, but is definitely working his way towards being a hardcore snuggler with the right person. He comes when you call and is very food motivated. He does have a bit of anxiety which he shows by pacing from window to window. He is not destructive in the house and goes and stays in his crate with no problems. He was staying in his crate on his own but is now sitting in the living room with us on a daily basis. He gets along with the other dogs and will play with them. He's fine with the cats as well. He does not seem to notice my chickens when they are in the coop but will stalk and hunt the wild birds in the neighbors yard. He respects the 4 foot fence with no issues. He would benefit from some training, he does not walk well on a leash at all and that is my achilles heel of dog training for whatever reason. He does seem to prefer women to men but is warming up to my husband. I can get some better pictures.

If you are interested in meeting Oskar, please complete our adoption application on our website www.gsprescuenj.com.
