OSKAR's Story

We take the time to post pertinent information about our dogs and that information can be found below. Our dogs are fostered in homes so we know them well. If it appears you would be interested in one of our dogs and you fit the requirements for that dog, please go to our website - www.enchantmutts.org and complete an application. The application form is found under Adoptable Dogs - Adoption Process at www.enchantmutts.org. When the application is complete - you can submit it to info@enchantmutts.org. We will contact you when the application has been reviewed. Thank you.

This gorgeous boy was part of a breeder dump rescued by EnchantMutts early 2023. Of the six purebred aussies dumped - four made very fast turnarounds (have to love those aussies!) and have found their forever homes with wonderful families. OSKAR and CRICKET both have taken more time getting acclimated to a normal home and to feel safe. They spent much of their time in crates and were used for breeding with little human contact. But those days are over and they are getting the hang of being dogs. OSKAR has survived being dumped in the middle of nowhere and a pretty crappy life before that - so all is uphill from here!

OSKAR is a mini Australian Shepherd (AMS) and weighs in at 32 lbs. We estimate him to be born mid-2022 so still learning all there is to know - he never really had a "childhood". He is a blue merle with piercing blue eyes and has stunning markings.

OSKAR is looking for a family that is patient and understanding of the fact that he had an awful start to life and is just starting to learn how to dog. He is a project dog and is special needs - he requires a very savvy home. He is very sweet, loves to sneak up for some cuddles and pets and his favorite pastime is to play with the other dogs - all of them - all at once or one at a time - PLAY - PLAY - PLAY! OSKAR doesn't bark - he "Woo Woos" perhaps he is finding his voice and doesn't quite know how to use it yet - ha!

OSKAR is not a dog for a family with kids because kids have friends. Friends come over to the house and OSKAR won't know they aren't tiny orcs come to kill everyone in the house and will fear for his life - this is a project dog and his exposure to new things will take time and patience. OSKAR still needs lots of training - he is incredibly smart but he has to trust before he gives his all and there will be bumps along the road. OSKAR is not trustworthy off leash but he is getting the hang of walking on one - he loves walks! He will try to convince you he doesn't need to be on a leash, but don't fall for it - kind of like me guarding the last of the chips and salsa.

OSKAR is house trained with a doggy door and is crated trained. He adores his toys and especially the chew bones and has a place where he takes them all in the back yard (yes - every toy in the house) - he calls it his secret garden - we call it the back 40. He is still building his trust and we know in time, he will be a great companion for a lucky person or family who can handle his needs. He MUST have another dog in the house (or two) and hopefully one that will play with him and show him the way to become THE GOOD BOY he can be. His ideal family will be work at home with plenty of time to spend with him or active retired and are savvy on dogs that need a slow hand and a calm environment.

OSKAR is current on his vaccinations, on heartworm prevention, been wormed, micro chipped and neutered. He is house trained with a dog door, crate trained, gets along great with other dogs and again - he NEEDS to have another canine companion in his forever home. Cats are an unknown and we are thinking perhaps not a good thing for OSKAR.

OSKAR is a project dog - no two ways about it - he has specific needs and is easily spooked. But we know he has HUGE potential. He will never be the dog that greets guests at the front door and shows them where the keg is, but he does have a great sense of humor and will WOO WOO his way into a heart or two and when he connects - he connects. If you think you can give this boy the moon and stand by him, and have experience with working dogs, please complete an application (at the adoption process button above) and submit to info@enchantmutts.org

Sorry - OSKAR WILL NOT be adopted out of the state of New Mexico.

EnchantMutts, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
NOTE: We do NOT adopt our animals out of the State of New Mexico. Prior to adoption (special accommodations can be made for puppies** and certain circumstances), all of our dogs are: * spayed or neutered* * vaccinated * heartworm and tick borne illness tested and on preventative * microchipped * dewormed and tested for tick borne diseases * given necessary medical treatment if needed while in our care - including surgery, blood panels, aides, if needed and on a case-by-case basis. All known health information that we are aware of is divulged on our animals *Well-loved in foster homes where they receive premium care and basic training. **Depending on their age at adoption, puppies will require follow-up care after adoption (spay/neuter, additional vaccinations) - we do not spay or neuter puppies until they are a minimum of six (6) months old and adopters will adhere to our puppy contracts. Adoption Process: We are dedicated to finding the best matches for both our animals and adoptive families. We spent time getting to know the animals in our care during the foster period so we are very much aware of the most compatible homes for them based on their personalities and their needs. We follow a specific adoption process. Here are the steps required to adopt a dog: * complete and submit an adoption application (found below) * you will be contacted to discuss the dog/cat you are interested in and we will talk about the possible fit and review your application with you * if it seems as it would be a good fit, we will have you meet the dog * a mandatory home visit will be made * references will be contacted * if there are existing animals in the home, introductions will be arranged to ensure compatibility prior to any sleepover or adoption * sleepover (yes - we pack their overnight bags for a test drive to make sure it is a fit) contract is required to adopt * must be 21 to adopt Adoption Fees: dogs: up to $300 seniors: adoption fees for our seniors are on a case by case basis - normally there is no adoption fee but we fully expect their families to continue the regiment of supplements and care predetermined for the dog to allow them to live full and happy lives for the time they have left. Notes: It is very seldom that we adopt our dogs into a single animal home and puppies will only go to homes that have another suitable dog in the home. We believe that dogs are pack animals and they need canine companionship as well as human companionship. Due to the dog breeds we tend to work with - working dogs - they will require homes with fully fenced yards and apartments are not a good fit. Ready to get started? If you are interested in one of our animals for adoption, please fill out an adoption application found on our website - www.enchantmutts.org. Email the completed application to the contact person listed in the animal's description. If no email address is listed, please send the application to info@enchantmutts.org. Please note that completion of an application does not guarantee adoption of a pet - we focus completely on the right home for the animal and for the family. You must be at least 21 years of age to apply for or adopt an animal
