Oscar's Story

<p data-start="0" data-end="334">Oscar is a 7 month old mixed Mastiff with big paws and an even bigger heart. After bravely overcoming parvovirus when he first came into care, he has made a full recovery and is now thriving. As a Mastiff mix, he is likely to grow into a very large, handsome boy and is already showing all the goofy, lovable traits of a giant breed puppy.</p><br/><br/><p data-start="336" data-end="701">Oscar loves people and has been great with kids. He gets along well with the dogs in his foster home and brings lots of playful energy to the group. He also met cats as a visitor and was curious but respectful. He is affectionate, social, and happiest when he is included in daily life. He is crated during the day when home alone and is learning that it is a safe space, responding well to positive reinforcement and guidance.</p><br/><br/><p data-start="703" data-end="1113">Like most puppies, Oscar is still working on his manners. He can be a bit nippy when excited and enjoys chewing on his toys and the occasional glove, but he redirects easily and has not damaged the home. He is not a fan of the crate at night yet and may protest, and his playful energy means he is still learning when to give other dogs some space. With consistency and training, he continues to make progress.</p><br/><br/><p data-start="1115" data-end="1370" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Oscar's ideal home is one prepared for a growing large breed who will need structure, ongoing training, and positive reinforcement. An active family committed to guiding him through his puppy stage will gain a loyal, loving, and wonderfully fun companion.</p><br/><br/><p><em>Our adoption fees cover all up to date veterinary needs, including but not limited to: full veterinary examination, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal test and parasite prevention, wellness bloodwork, spay or neuter, and microchip. All dogs will be started on a 6 week trial of pet insurance after adoption. Local adopters can take advantage of 50% off a training course at Ruff Haus in Barrie (<span role="gridcell"><a role="link" href="http://www.ruffhaus.ca/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExam5VQ1ZiRDJ4QW9oUXpzSXNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR47MX1Um92Tqyy52F_TJifZoiFx1U7UtGjmvRTN6Ig36IRaMUZmlEPqOYDAXw_aem_HeAQu_O-pqfpeAAvh9sLLw" target="_blank" rel="noopener">www.ruffhaus.ca</a></span>) and all adopters will also be signed up for Petcademy to offer 30 days of free text-based behavioural support.</em></p> Please visit our website www.preciouspawsrescue.ca to submit an adoption application.

Precious Paws Rescue's Adoption Policy
Before inquiring about a specific dog for adoption, please ensure you have read their complete bio. We try to provide a complete description of each dog’s preferences in their write up including whether they are good with children and/or other pets. Adoption fees for each dog are also listed in their bio. If you still have questions about a dog you’re interested in please send us a message and one of our volunteers will respond as soon as possible. The first step if you are interested in adopting one of our available dogs is to complete our online Adoption Application at www.preciouspawsrescue.ca. Once your application is received one of our volunteers will review it and then get in touch with you to schedule a time for an interview. We will request a Zoom interview with you, so that we can complete your “phone interview” and “home visit” all at once. If these applications are not available to you we will schedule your phone interview first and, following that, we will schedule a home visit where a volunteer visits to meet all family members and see where the dog would be living. Our focus is on making the best match, not only for our rescue dogs, but also for our adoptive families. We want our adoptions to be successful for all involved so please understand that our adoption process is in place to ensure this happens. If you have any questions please get in touch!
