Orca (Orchid)'s Story
Orchid is a smart, affectionate, wonderfully quirky 3-year-old girl who has been thriving in a foster home and has shown just how easily she settles into life as a beloved family dog.

She is house-trained and crate-trained, great in the car and in public, and incredibly receptive to training. Orchid knows sit, down, shake, “out,” “up,” and “let’s go,” and is working on “find it.” She previously pulled on leash but learned to walk nicely very quickly.

At home, Orchid is surprisingly easygoing. She’s happy to nap much of the day with a few daily walks and especially loves long sniff walks. Her favorite things include tennis balls, stuffies, enrichment toys, belly rubs, and cuddling with her people. She even “purrs” when you pet her! She checks on you in the shower, paws at your phone when you’ve had too much screen time, and puts herself to bed around 11 p.m.

Orchid is friendly with new people and very affectionate with the people she lives with.

Most importantly, Orchid has a strong prey drive and needs a home without cats, small dogs, or other small animals. Her current condo complex has many small dogs nearby, which is why her foster is seeking a more suitable placement.

Orchid can be reactive toward dogs on leash but is responsive to redirection and making progress. At the shelter, she interacted with several large dogs, was described as tolerant of other dogs, and received a “Calm Dogs Recommended” designation. Any canine housemate should be appropriately matched and introduced.

Orchid doesn’t need to be the right dog for every home—just the right one for her.

Orchid (A5778591) is currently in foster through Santa Clarita Valley Animal Care Center. Email the shelter at SCValley@animalcare.lacounty.gov for more information or help connecting with her foster family.
