Ophelia’s FAQs

What is Fulton County Regional SPCA’s adoption process?

The first step is to fill out an online application at https://fcrspca.org/adopt. Only after an application is accepted will we make an appointment for you and your family to come meet the animal(s) you are interested in adoption. **Important information to know prior to completing an application** ~We do not adopt on a "first come, first served" basis ~We will not put animals “on hold” for anyone for any reason ~We will require you to bring your resident dog(s) to the shelter for a meet and greet of any dog you intend to adopt ~When you come to the shelter to meet a dog, come prepared to meet outside as our shelter is too small to facilitate meetings inside. Proper footwear and clothing is suggested for the current weather. ~Please be patient while we schedule meetings. There are select volunteers who are allowed to handle such meets and we may not be able to schedule something right away. ~Cats and kittens are able to go home the same day if your application is approved and there are no other pets in your home. Please come prepared to take your new pet home. Please ask us what you will need if you are unsure. ~Dogs are not sent home the same day you come to meet them. We do this so that you and your family as well as the adoption staff have time to consider the meet and the application and make sure we are doing what is best for the dog rather than bouncing them from place to place. If ultimately approved, you would be scheduled to come pick the dog up for a trial adoption where you will have up to 2 weeks to make a decision on officially adopting or bringing the dog back to the shelter. Adoption Fees $325: Puppies under 6 months old can go home as soon as they are 10 weeks or older. The adoption fee includes the spay/neuter (scheduled at the time of adoption if under 6 months), microchip, Rabies vaccination, 5-in-1 vaccination (against canine distemper, canine hepatitis, adenovirus, parainfluenza, and parvovirus), Lyme vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, worming, nail trim and flea treatment (if necessary). $250: Dogs 6 months and older. Fee includes the spay/neuter, microchip, heart worm testing (our dogs are on heartworm preventative when they leave the shelter), Rabies vaccination, 5-in-1 vaccination (against canine distemper, canine hepatitis, adenovirus, parainfluenza, and parvovirus), Lyme vaccination, Bordetella vaccination, nail trim and flea treatment (if necessary). $125 ($175 bonded pair): Cats and kittens. Fees include the spay/neuter, microchip, FIV/FeLV testing, Rabies vaccination, distemper shots, worming, nail trim and flea treatment (if necessary). All cats and kittens available are in foster homes and not at the shelter. Payment can be made by cash, check, or credit card and is due prior to or at the time of adoption.
