Opal's Story

Meet Opal — It’s Finally Her Turn to Be the Baby

If ever there were a dog who deserved her happily-ever-after, it’s Opal.
Opal is approximately 3 years old, but she has already been through more than most dogs should experience in a lifetime. She was used as a mama and appears to have had at least a couple of litters. She also had a C-section, and when she came into care, the material that had been used to close her incision was shockingly heavy and rigid—described as looking more like weed-whacker line than normal surgical suture material.

This little mama had truly been through the wringer.
And somehow, after everything humans had put her through, she still came out sweet.

She has been with her foster family since July 5, discovering what life is supposed to be like: a soft bed, people who love her, doggie siblings to play with, toys to destroy, and the security of knowing she’s safe.

And Opal is embracing EVERY bit of it.

She absolutely loves to play and loves her foster siblings—especially her buddy Morty. She’s also a serious toy enthusiast. If you give this girl a stuffed toy, consider that stuffing officially living on borrowed time. She will find it. She will remove it. She will be very proud of herself.

She’s also doing incredibly well in her foster home. Since July 5, she has had only one accident in the house, she’s doing awesome with recall and “place” commands, and they’re continuing to work on crate training.

Opal is spayed, fully vaccinated, short, stocky, sweet, goofy, affectionate, and quite possibly the cutest little feet-dragging low rider you’ll ever meet.

But what makes her really special isn’t what she’s learning or even how adorable she is.
It’s that after everything she experienced, she still trusts. She still plays. She still loves people. And she has SO much love left to give.

Opal has spent enough of her life being a mama.
Now it’s her turn to be somebody’s baby.

She needs a forever family who will give her the life she should have had all along—one filled with love, safety, playtime, doggie friends, ridiculous sleeping positions, and preferably a very generous budget for indestructible toys.

Please share Opal. Her hard chapters are behind her. Now we just need to find the people who get to be part of the good ones.

APPLY https://www.southernstatesbullyrescue.org/blank

Palmetto, FL
