Opal's Story

This sweet lady is Opal and she's such a great little girl! She's 12 years old and weighs 17 pounds. Her family could no longer keep her so we're looking for a loving home for her. She's living with a great Foster family on Long Island now and they share that despite her age, she looks and acts much younger. Her Foster Mom calls her "The Husky" because she loves to play and run in the snow. She likes other dogs and loves to snuggle in your lap and watch TV. She loves everyone and wags her tail constantly. She's housebroken but will use wee-wee pads if you leave them out too. We've taken to her a Vet for her check up and all is good and she'll be getting a dental cleaning this week. She'll be a great companion for a retired person who is looking for a loving little pup to spoil and take care of! If you're interested in finding out more about her and meeting her please reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com).

Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes.   What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
