Omar Otto's Story

Omar was born around April 21, 2024, and weighs about 5. He and 21 other dogs were seized from a woman who was on the Animal Abuse Registry for Cattaraugus County. Omar is teeny tiny and just about as cute as they come. He has bilateral luxating patellas but gets around fine. He may require pain meds in the future. Please speak with your vet if you have any questions about luxating patellas before applying to adopt. Omar is shy but quickly becomes your best friend. Omar loves other dogs. We are suggesting older/respectful children if there are children in his next home, just because of his initial shyness and teeny tiny size. You will have potty training to do and we often suggest potty pads for these teeny tiny dogs with teeny tiny bladders. This is all we know so far and we will be learning as we go and so will you!

'UPDATE from an experienced small dog handler!

He’s a sweetheart!! he did really well... I mean, he didn’t want to come out of his crate but once I had him out, he was fine. Didn’t nip, not once. Just really nervous. Does not like the leash. I warned anyone that reached for him or wanted to pet him, but he NEVER nipped or growled. Kids were able to pet him.

'

UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM: It took Omar a day or two to get used to his new environment, and during that time, I let him do as he pleased as I went about my daily chores. I would wave and talk to him when I saw him, but I did not push him to be picked up or cuddled. I let him decide when he was ready, and when he was ready, he bonded intensely. Now Omar does not leave my side, and I think if he could somehow glue himself to me, he would! Omar is the tiniest creature in my home of giant dogs, small dogs, cats, and a parrot, and he does well with everyone. However, he will at times chase the submissive cat in the home; he doesn't mess with the alpha cat. If you have a cat in your home, it will need to be dog-savvy. I feel he might start to play with some of my little dogs eventually, but it's not his main priority right now. Omar still has some fear and will run and hide when the house gets overly rambunctious, so I think a home with no small children would be best. His luxating patellas don't slow him down, and he can jump up on couches and beds with ease.

The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_500.00_.
Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. By adopting a pet you are not only helping the pet you adopt but also others in or needing to come into rescue. Your adoption helps us to keep doing what we do to help area animals stop reproducing and find quality homes for the homeless while providing them the best care we can. Your new family member will take considerable time, attention, patience and money to be properly cared for. Think of your new addition as your baby!! It is not a lawn ornament to be tied in your yard or kept in a basement. Consider the ultimate size of a young pet, how big of a pet can you handle??
