Olive's Story
Olive is a very sweet, gentle and loving poodle mix. She is independent and loves to curl up for some affection. She is social, very curious, playful with a touch of shyness upon meeting new people.

Before arriving to Los Angeles she was living in Mexico in a pack of 40 dogs of all breeds and sizes. She is comfortable around dogs and knows how to socialize and interact. She is not overly barky, but like most dogs, will bark when she is startled or if she feels threatened. With a corrective command she will quiet down. Overall she is a lovely, sweet and you can feel she is extremely grateful for being rescued. She is approximately 3.5 years old and around 10 pounds.

Olive walks well on the leash, is very curious and would enjoy being out and about multiple times during the day. Her world is still just opening up and it's like everything is there to be smelled. Ideally her future home will be with someone who has the time and understanding to allow her to enjoy this part of her day.

Olive has begun crate training and like many dogs prefers to be cuddle up next to you versus being in her crate. Overall she is doing well and will settle down after a couple minutes of whining. She enjoys the car and doesn't show any signs of car sickness.

She is still in the process of learning to fully go to the bathroom outside. She will need her potty training continued and reinforced in her new environment. Regular scheduled walks and crate training have been a great resource for accomplishing this.

Olive is sterilized, fully vaccinated, up to date with her anti-parasite and anti-flea/tick/heartworm meds, recently tested negative for heart worm and Lyme disease, is microchipped and received a complete blood panel before making the journey from Mexico. Upon adopting you will receive her health records as well as a small bag of kibble to help with the transition.

Olive is available for meet and greets in Southern California and will be living between Los Angeles and La Quinta between the 8th and the 17th. If you are interested in learning more about her please complete an application using the below link.

https://forms.gle/BG1oJn8TRfLWskwT6

About the Process:

I respond in great detail to all of the messages I receive within 48 hours. If you do not see a response in your inbox, please check your junk/spam folder. Also, prefer to have a phone number included in your message so I can also follow up via text. If you are interested it would be a shame to find out weeks/months later that my response was in your junk box all that time.

My Name is Eric. I am a New Yorker living in Mexico rescuing street dogs in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, Mexico since 2020. The Thriving Dog Mexico is not just a shelter, we are a sanctuary where we help dogs in need of physical and emotional rehabilitation and in return they help us heal too. Our mission is to prepare every single on or our dogs, no matter how their life may have started, to be prepared for a life where they will be loved, respected and THRIVE. All of the dogs under my care live inside with me in my house, are house trained and accustomed to what it means to live in a warm loving environment. They enjoy sleeping in a warm bed, watching tv on the sofa, being playful in my yard and soaking up the sun or laying under a tree when they just want to take a bit of rest.

All our dogs will make the journey to the United States from Mexico upon the approval of their adoption. We welcome the opportunity for adoptees to come and visit our dogs in Guadalajara, Mexico before adopting. We are happy to help with arrangements and find it a very rewarding experience for those adoptees who have done this.

We are seriously committed to finding the correct humans for our dogs and ask that only serious applicants apply. As part of our application process, you will be required to participate in at least one video call and participate in a home visit. If the dog you are interested in adopting is still here with us in Mexico, transportation is included in the adoption fee. We will coordinate all the required documents, transportation and an initial meet and greet. We only fly on direct flights and currently fly out of Guadalajara International Airport (GDL) and Leon Bajio International Airport (BJX) when transporting from Mexico to the United States.

We have placed over 60 dogs in their forever homes in the United States since 2023. We ask you to trust our process, we know what we are doing and we only do what is best for our dogs. I consider them all my children and their health, safety wellbeing are my utmost priority.

We are happy to share our adoption stories from those who have joined The Thriving Dog Family. Please ask of for references.

You may ask yourself, why adopt a once homeless dog from Mexico when there are so many dogs in shelters in the United States being euthanized. We believe ALL the dogs of the world need our support. If you have not been to Mexico, one thing you would notice very quickly is the number of homeless dogs. Street dogs are a part of every small village and large city here in Mexico. Many of the dogs living on the streets are dumped as puppies, die from deadly viruses, are shot or poisoned or are hit and killed by cars or 18 wheelers. If they are lucky enough to beat those odds, they are left to a life of searching for food, water and shelter on a daily basis.

So, when you adopt a once homeless dog from The Thriving Dog Mexico you are not only giving a deserving dog a wonderful and safe home you are also supporting the work we are committed to here in the communities of Mexico. Your support helps our organization sponsor sterilization campaigns, educational events which ultimately gets more of these dogs off the streets.

Little by little together we are bringing awareness and transforming the narrative of a culture.
