Oakley's Story

Oakley is now the longest stay resident of CGHS, coming into the shelter system in 2024, he has become accustomed to the people and routine here. He was found as a stray with no further information of his history but being found when estimated to already be 3 years old we know he had to have some past to him. Oakley is now 5 after spending two years here, he is also our oldest large dog right now. Due to his long stay in the shelter he does have some behavioral needs and obstacles future owners will need to be aware of...

Oakley has done good with some dogs, he seems to enjoy dogs that have manners and are not too interested or over excitable with him. He can have a strict program when it comes to playing with others. Oakley has also developed stranger danger especially with men, he is fearful and need space and lots of treat encouragement. This doesn't mean that he couldn't ever get used to being near a man but it would take multiple visits and patience! He has done amazing meeting women and is particularly open to befriending them, he does have a couple volunteer men and staff that he is friends with but it does take convincing.

Oakley has always struggled with leash reactivity his whole stay here, it's sporadic what can be his triggers ranging from other reactive dogs to bikes, but he has walked nicely with well trained dogs! We are hoping we can find a family with patience and a willingness to work on training and routine, and hopefully some property for him to run all his pent up energy and frustrations out on! Once this guy becomes you're friend, he is the biggest lovebug! Oakley tries to be a big lap dog and if you give him attention he will make sure you leave covered in his kisses and hair! Staff cannot express how big of a teddy bear this guy is once comfortable!

Age: 5 years
Weight: 65lbs
Adoption Fee: Flexible

Fill out an application at: https://www.columbiagorgehs.org/adopt.html

(All animals adopted out of CGHS are spayed/neutered, up to date on annual vaccines including rabies, and microchipped)
