Oakley's Story

Oakley is a 6-month-old, 25-pound sweetheart who is smart, affectionate, playful, and ready to find her forever family. Since arriving in foster care, she has grown into a wonderful companion who thrives with structure, consistency, and positive reinforcement. Oakley is doing great with her training! She knows sit and shake, loves to play fetch, and will happily retrieve her toys or balls, bring them back, and release them for another throw. She is eager to learn and responds exceptionally well to praise, affection, and treats. She is potty trained but is still young, so it's important to watch for her cues and keep her on a consistent routine. Oakley walks nicely on a leash, enjoys getting out to explore, and is wonderful in the car. Whether it's a quick trip across town or a longer road trip, she rides calmly and comfortably. At home, Oakley is an easy companion. She sleeps through the night in bed with her foster parents without moving around or snoring. She enjoys being close to her people and loves spending time with them. She isn't much of a barker, though she'll let you know when someone arrives at the house. Otherwise, she's very easygoing and isn't bothered by loud noises. Even the Fourth of July fireworks didn't faze her. Oakley has done well with the children she has met, but she's just as happy spending time with adults. She is also working on replacing playful puppy nibbles with appropriate chew toys and responds well when redirected to her favorite bone. Oakley is still learning about other dogs. She can be a little apprehensive during introductions and is currently building confidence through training and positive experiences. Because of this, slow, thoughtful introductions to resident dogs would be ideal. She has not been tested with cats. Oakley is currently crated for about 6.5 hours three days a week and for shorter periods on other days. While she doesn't love being crated during the day, she is continuing to build confidence and learn to relax when left alone. She is also making progress toward earning more freedom in the home. Oakley is looking for a family that will continue her training, provide plenty of love and structure, and enjoy all the fun, loyalty, and companionship she has to offer. If you're looking for a smart, playful, and loving young dog to grow with your family, Oakley could be the perfect match! Her adoption fee includes her microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, and her completed spay. Puppy Mill Rescue Team 's Adoption Policy
ADOPTION POLICIES The Puppy Mill Rescue Team’s dogs are placed into adoptive homes within 60 miles of the foster home. We have foster homes in Rochester, NY, Buffalo, NY, and Macedonia, OH. When applying for a specific dog please check the profile to see where the dog is located. If you are not in this area and are looking to adopt, we recommend that you visit our Rescue Partners area or Petfinder.com to locate a rescue in your area. A legally binding Adoption Agreement must be signed at the time a dog is placed. The adoption donation varies and is included in the dog’s description on the website as well as in the Adoption Agreement. Adoption donations are not negotiable and payment must be made in full prior to or at the time of the placement of the dog. Please read prior to submission of an application for adoption. All potential homes must complete our adoption process which includes an application, meet and greet, home inspection and veterinary reference. Applicants must provide veterinary references if they have previously owned a pet and contact veterinary facilities to authorize release of their records to a PMRT representative upon request. Applicants who rent their homes must verify that they are permitted to have a dog and provide a landlord contact number on the adoption application. Landlords will be contacted in every case, no exception. The primary adopter must be at least 21 years old. We are solely committed to the dogs accepted into the rescue. We want to find them loving, permanent homes and go to great lengths to place the right dog into the right family. We reserve the right to decline any adoption based on what we feel is in the best interest of the dog.
