Oakley's Story
Oakley is currently living and training with his handlers at Fluvanna Women's Correctional Center.

Through a partnership with the Virginia Department of Corrections, Pixie's Pen Pals (a program of FETCH a Cure) places homeless dogs in the care of incarcerated people for dedicated, individualized training and socialization guided by canine behavior specialists.

The bio below was provided by his handlers at Fluvanna Women's Correctional Center:

My name is Oakley and I am a one year old Rottie/Hound mix. I am super sweet and very smart. I'm a cuddle bug who loves to be near my people. I haven't met anyone that I don't like and I love to play with people, by myself, or with other dogs. I love squeaky toys and I'm learning to fetch. Even when I'm off leash I'm not likely to wonder far from my family. I've only been in the pen pals program for a couple of weeks but I've already learned my name, a recall, sit, settle, down, wait, leave it, and kennel up. I do like to jump up on people when I'm excited so even though I'm doing better I still need a little more work on that. I crate really well and my house manners are pretty good. I'm still working on a few behaviors like picking up socks and gloves, or chewing on the edges of furniture, but I only do this when I'm tired and feeling mischievous. Just give me a few more weeks and I'll be just about perfect. But even now, my sweetness makes up for my mistakes.
