Nyla's Story

Meet Nyla, a sweet 4-year-old Shih Tzu whose name means “winner” or “one who achieves.” And while she may not be ready to win over the whole world just yet, this little lady is definitely winning hearts one cautious step at a time! Nyla came to us in rough shape and is learning that life can be safe, gentle, and full of good things. She’s a very nervous girl who takes her time trusting people and would love a patient person who understands that confidence doesn’t happen overnight. She isn’t a fan of being picked up and may yelp or snap when frightened, so she needs respectful handling and plenty of space to make the first move.

Once Nyla feels comfortable, her sweet personality starts to shine. She enjoys walks—as long as they’re on the sidewalk (wet grass is apparently a five-star hard NO)—and may even break out the occasional squeaky-toy play session. She’s fine with children ages 4–10, is indifferent to other dogs, and does well when left alone without a crate. She’s still working on housetraining and learning her signals, so patience will be important there, too. Nyla may take a little time to “achieve” her full potential, but with a calm, understanding home, this little winner could be on her way to claiming the greatest prize of all: a forever family.

Fill out an application and find out how to meet this dog.

We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dogs individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog.

Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don't know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area.
